I am definitely going to use your books and patterns to make some fun cosplays once things start to get rolling on conventions and stuff again (I have a Femme Nightwing cosplay that I've prototyped and I'm dying to put together a more finished version!), but I think that a lot of your advice could easily apply to other artistic endeavours too. For me, I really want to post a webcomic. I've had it in the works for... an embarrassingly long time now, but I've always been too nervous to post it, thinking it's not good enough, that people won't be interested, that there are other much better ones, etc. And I really do need to just... get something done of it and get it out there. It can't be seen by anyone if I keep it on my hard drive forever. My question for you would be, in regards to just getting people to see your content, how in the holy heck does one go about self promoting? I'm terrible at it, I have like -3 followers combined on my social media platforms and I don't know where to begin trying to grow an audience.

Just don't force it. If you feel inspired and want to craft, then just do what you enjoy. However if you feel like you have to create something new, it's probably not the right time. Cosplay is about having fun and never should feel like a job! :)
@laurasaurus73994 жыл бұрын
I find that a lot of the time with cosplays I get really excited thinking about how to do a specific part and so I usually start off the cosplay with that part. You could research how to do an aspect of the cosplay that you think is really cool or maybe start with something simple that you know won't be too tricky. Also, don't be afraid of messing up cosplay can be a learning curve (even the biggest cosplayers make mistakes). Oh, and you can always go back to older cosplays and remake things when you've learned new skills
@alyssamarie2214 жыл бұрын
You just gotta pick a place to start. I had wanted to do it for years, and finally did my first last fall. I failed at sewing my own dress from scratch, and due to limited time, I instead chose to alter something from the thrift store. I searched for the places that I would buy my materials from, watched a lot of cosplay tutorials, and found a basic and free pattern to create my prop. It certainly wasn't a professional job in the end, but I learned a lot in the process and know the next will be even better. My simple cosplay, that looked so flawed to me, got a lot of good reactions and people wanted pictures with me. Just go for it!
@ShadowKamehameha324 жыл бұрын
Dont feel like you have to start from one specific spot. Research and pick out an area of the cosplay that you want to work on first. For example, I'm working on a cosplay of Kratos from GoW4, and I started by making The Blades of Chaos, which led me to working on the blood soaked rags, which led me to working on the shoulder guard. Progress starts from where YOU want it to.

Okay, so, I'm afraid of cameras. Like having my photo taken or being filmed. Sends my anxiety through the roof. Not sure what to do about that. I paint, paint minis, make cosplay outfits, make terrain for minis, dioramas, random stuff that pops into my head. I take progress photos but have been thinking about streaming my gameplay on twitch. But I don't want to be seen as one of those 'GaMeR GiRls'. I play games for the love of them. And the challenge of achievements. My crowning achievement is, "A Toe Into Madness" from D00M [not Eternal]. I guess it boils down to, "I can do a bunch of stuff but am afraid of cameras because I am female and don't want to be... ignored... just because I am pretty." And the pretty part is according to everybody else I talk to. I don't see it. *shrug* You are an inspiration to me. I think that is the way to put it. ~Alpharius, Alpha Legion
@KamuiCosplay4 жыл бұрын
I‘m also pretty nervous in front of the camera which is why I talk so fast haha. I also have to drink energy drinks to be a bit hyper. I think the important thing is to remember that you do it for yourself not for anybody else. If someone is a dick to you, you always have to power to ban and mute them. I do it all the time lol
@TheSockMonkeyGuy4 жыл бұрын
Take heart; you don't have to appear on camera to make successful videos. I follow several maker KZfaqrs who show only their hands working and use voiceover commentary to explain the process. And one of them doesn't even use voiceover, but instead puts explanatory text at the bottom of the screen. I have no idea what he looks or sounds like, but I enjoy his content so I'm a subscriber! Appearing on camera in person makes it easier to build a connection with your viewers, but it's NOT absolutely necessary for success. For cosplay videos, perhaps you can get a friend to model your creations. Watch different YTers to observe their different filming and editing techniques, and find a style that works for you. And as Svetlana points out, you can always "curate" your viewers' comments!

Oh gosh, no! I touch my old stuff only if has critical errors in it, but I will never redo something. If I would even begin with that, I would have to redo ALL books and once I'm through all 14, I wouldn't like the first one anymore and I would have to redo it a second time and then it goes on and on and on. The Worbla armor book actually helped plenty of people to get into cosplay and taught them how to create cool armor costumes. It's a good book, but based on my current standards just not up do date anymore. Still, it does its job pretty good. :)
