In one of the sequences when tsukiyama looks back on the past, the image of kaneki sitting with hinami and banjo and his gas mask ghoul friends (i think they are) never happened in the anime as season 2 doesnt adapt the plot from the manga at all, so it doesnt make sense for those who have watched the anime. So that moment never happened in the anime, but in the manga kaneki did keep regular contact as he never joined aogiri
