@@defeatedbyego758 Dizzy Rascal’s early music, Wiley, Kano, Ruff Sqwad, Arkala, Skepta, JME , Devlin, Dot Rotton from 2000 though to 2010 was a really productive time for grime. Wiley’s what do you call it, is a good introduction to the start of grime, Ruff Sqwad made alot of early classics such as Functions on the low which Stormzy, used on shut up. There is a really extensive selection of early grime about on KZfaq including Dizzy Rascal clashing with Crazy Titch ( who later would be jailed for life for committing murder with a Mac 10). Loads of good grime there to discover & that footage from illegal radio stations shows how it grew & the energy it had in its early days. Kano’s clash with Wiley is really good & worth finding for how raw things were back then.

I was very lucky to experience fully the old school house and garage scene and it's evolution. It was amazing. From the US Garage and house to the UK garage and grime. Like Kano said, the OG garage MCs were just hype men. Some of the OG garage Hype men being PSG, DT, MC Creed, basic but effective rhymes. American equivalent was fat man scoop. You also had The Heartless crew who hyped up the crowd but mixed it with poetic flows. Heartless consisted of MC Bushkin, MC Mighty Mo and DJ Fonti. They had a strong West Indian flavour so that influence from dancehall and bashment. The UK Garage scene was very sexy. The garage raves were a fun place to be. The women dressed up. The men dressed up. Very good memories. The evolution into grime took it to a darker place. So Solid Crew from South London. There were several from East London. Pay as you cartel, Roll Deep, nasty crew to name but a few. I was in the scene and appreciated the talent but I wasn't the biggest fan. Missed the Garage scene

I’m British and Kano is a U.K. legend but he’s not better than Nas, maybe D Double E is but Kano he’s not got that many hits compared to someone like Giggs if I’m being honest but I still like some of his classics like Ps & Qs and 3 Wheels-Up. He’s got some good verses on other U.K. artists songs but D Double E is Nas level if not higher because of man’s legendary ad-libs he’s the most underrated MC honestly speaking. Street Fighter Riddim is on the level of Papoose’s song Alphabetical Slaughter. Ring Ring Ft Skrapz is just one of my favourite songs by D Double

Respect he actually knows a bit about grime. I remember pow being banned from raves because it was so fucking aggy every time it was played, the crowd would start throwing bottles and shooting guns in the air, mad times! That tune still makes me want to punch ppl when I hear it 😂

Yes geez…..! I was saying this to someone else the other day, and they weren’t really taking me proper serious that that song was banned in alot of places, and for the reasons you mention. Tbf there were alot of problems when that scene first come into clubs. Couldn’t step on someone’s trainers without problems…. (And some massive problems started from someone just standing on someone trainers.. some aggy Fucking people about then. Fun times though 🙌😆)

jungle isn't a racist term - that scene was called jungle because of a sample used in many jungles tracks taken from a dancehall MC who was shouting out "all the junglists". 'junglist' was a term used in Jamaica to refer to all the people who lived outside of town, sometimes in the hills, who would come in to the parties and dances in the town. jungle was very much a black British urban sound from roughly 1991 - 1993 which then morphed in to drum and bass in around 1993/1994 when it became more of a suburban uk sound. jungle music was very much the uk's answer to Jamaican dancehall and took its influences from early uk rave break beat culture and Jamaican reggae, ragga and dancehall music.

I remember jungle raves in around 96 called amazon, that was the height of jungle for me, it's good to see chase and status bringing it back the last few years, cutting their own dubplates in Jamaica was cool.
