Tyre pieces used to kick start the fire i.e. the coal put there starts burning because tyre pieces burn with high heat and for enough time so that the coal catches fire. Wood is an alternate option but those kind of woods come costly and may still require petrochemical products to generate the initial fire.Tyre pieces are not the primary heating substance here. Not saying it is good but still doable because of little quantity used. I have seen same technique being used in Clay Brick manufacturing plants where they use tyre,wood to get the coal burning. Greater health concern is using slippers and standing on the raw salt. At the final stage kicking with legs the black salt.

@@nishantmitra5632 they melt and you can never take that smell off, it is very toxic and they use it many times the same process. Also what you say i saw as they put the shoes over the salt.

It's much more hygienic than the average drinking water coming from the pipes in any Indian houses, that's where the parasites thrive. This dry salt has no living microbe on or in it. It's too dry and salty, therefore pretty much sterile guaranteed.

First and foremost- A commendable work to remove misconceptions that the Rock Salt that we consume is from mining it. Your dedication and hard work has been noticed and appreciated to shoot, edit the video and the story telling behind it. The only thing that strikes out- It is really safe to eat. Has it been lab tested for its constituents and certified safe for human consumption. As far as hygiene in the making is concerned- We Indians treat food safety and cleanliness as an Alien object trying to interfere with our routine life. Keep up the good work Dude- Standing ovation for you.

@@DutchmanAmsterdam Absolutely. The poor laborers need to earn their livelihood as well to feed their empty stomachs. Here is the catch- The owners/manufacturers have to keep an eye on the Hygiene during the entire process. But perhaps........

Best salt is white salt , which we used in our daily life due added with iodine . These black salt are having unnecessary minerals , will increase risk of kidney stone also they don't have iodine which can lead thyroid disorder. And the way they are making it , it's look like vary "hygienic" !

Don't worry, it is so dry and salty that no microbe can survive on it, it is actually sterile. Any tap water in your house will contain infinitely more pollutants and pathogens. I will definitely eat it even more. I do feel sorry for the workers that breath in the smoke from the tires and coal.
