I know this video is a bit old, but I'm planning on applying to study abroad in Japan and this school is at the top of my list. I have no idea where to start, honestly, but you're videos are so helpful. Thank you!

Michelle S. Go here over all the other schools just remember the school cares more about their students learning English than you learning Japanese I’ve taught here and studied here before

bit of a random comment but it's so funny that you call the school huge-- my school in america has about 23k undergraduate students alone! if i get accepted to kansai gaidai we might have opposite feelings, haha!

Do you know people who are doing the homestay instead of staying in the dorms? If so, how is that?

what about vegetarian food on campus? are there many options?
@TheHappyHippyLife
@TheHappyHippyLife 7 жыл бұрын
You might have to look around a bit more. There will definitely be some options in the convenience store, but the cafeterias serve a lot of meals with meat. However they do have salads you can get. And there is a convenience store right off campus that will have more options as well.

Great video! My friend and I are applying to study there for this fall (2017)!! We really want to travel to South Korea while we're there. Do you think it's possible during the fall semester or do you know anyone who did? Also, when do you actually sign up for classes? Do you sign up for them before you get there or during orientation? Thanks for all the information!
@TheHappyHippyLife
@TheHappyHippyLife 7 жыл бұрын
It's definitely possible to visit south korea while you're there, I know lots of people who went! Though you don't get national holidays off so you might have to miss a day or two of classes, but it's probably worth it. You sign up for classes during orientation, unless they change things before you get there, but they'll let you know when to sign up and everything! But they make it difficult to add classes after the registration period, so it's much better to add more classes than you need just to make sure you get some of the ones you want, and then drop any you decide you don't want. Hope that helped!

I'm not sure if the cost has changed, but it was pretty expensive for me. I don't remember the exact cost, but it should say if you look up their website!

Great video!. I'm looking for a master's program. Do you know someone how passed the admission process (entrance experience or recommendation)? I'm focus about my education

I attended this school and I do NOT recommend it if you are serious about your education. There are many other colleges in Japan that are MUCH better for the same cost or less. Kansai Gaidai is a family-owned, private, FOR PROFIT business disguised as a university that uses their foreign exchange program as a loss leader to bring in thousands of Japanese students who pay their expensive tuition for a chance to study abroad at the American and other nations' colleges and universities that have reciprocal foreign exchange programs with them. They don't tell this to their western foreign exchange students. If you do attend I suggest you take the MINIMUM amount of Japanese course credits and give yourself time to explore Japan. Especially travel to Kyoto, Osaka and Kobe, in that order. Also, DO NOT do the Japanese home stay program. I spent 3 to 4 hours a day commuting back and forth on trains and buses, which horribly cut into my study time and gave me no time to travel. Japan is a beautiful, fascinating country and I encourage you to study there - just not at this school. I wish you the Best of Luck.

From what I could tell this is true, though it didn't really affect me other than the ridiculous cost of the school (but if you do an exchange program then you won't be paying that cost). The school definitely has a lot of problems with it, but I very much enjoyed it nonetheless. For people thinking about studying abroad here, this is definitely something to consider.

I also have a question for you. I need to fill my language requirements (thanks to my university's ridiculous policy), and considered this place. It helps that all of the universities I had considered or were accepted into accommodate this school. I read from a comment that it's pretty much a joke, and you agreed that it did have problems. However, if I find that the school is lacking in language education, are there supplemental lessons if you need them? I'm quite serious about learning the language outside of it being a requirement, so it's a little concerning. Especially as I'm hoping to earn the rest of a certificate here and I don't want to take bogus courses. Thanks.

If I'm remembering correctly, there are two language classes you can take, one focused on speaking and the other focused on reading and writing comprehension. The firs one is mandatory, but the second one is optional, so you can definitely take more than what is required. I only took the required one, but I had a pretty awesome language teacher so as far as language classes so I don't think you'll be disappointed. You can also learn a lot more of the language by just practicing and talking to people in Japanese. So it really just depends on how much you push yourself to learn.

is there a practice test to help prep for the placement test?
@TheHappyHippyLife
@TheHappyHippyLife 7 жыл бұрын
I think the only placement test is the japanese language test, and you don't have to take that if you don't have any experience learning japanese. I don't think there are any practice tests other than just doing review. I didn't take it so I'm not sure what it's like, just do a little studying and brush up on your grammar and you'll be fine!
