At 65. My best days were before technology. Now it's too much of a distraction. I'm glad I have a good woodsmanship foundation. You can keep your cell camera , your crossbows . But I appreciate the treestands. Old trad hunter here

Do you know that when compound bows first came on the market they weren't allowed traditional bow clubs - crossbows guarantee nothing, still comes down to tactics and skill sets .

Intrusive surveillance cameras are already a fact everywhere in normal day- to- day life. So, I'm not exactly inclined to cry if Kansas wants to keep them off public lands. And I've never been entirely okay having my picture randomly taken in the middle of the woods. Boots on the ground scouting and setups based only on sign analysis. The way it's always been until recently.

Doesn't impact me and I can see both sides of the argument. How many hunters want to be walking in the woods and feel like they're on cctv. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I feel bad for the Exodus guys as it will hurt their business. Though it sounds like they are trying to mitigate the risk by branching out into other products. I guess were does it stop with technology (Crossbows shooting 1000 FPS?, Muzzle loaders shooting 600 yards?, Cellular cameras notifying when a deer is in an exact location?, Thermal drones when deer driving?, Jet packs for access, Analytic systems to predict deer movement ? I think internet / social media has made hunting a ding dong swinging toxic environment.

I agree to go back to the old ways no use of electronics in the aid or pursuit of game .on private do whatever. A man walking on public should not have to worry about getting his picture being taken in the middle of nowhere on public. Money has taken over hunting and Ethics are put to side as long as tax money can be made.

I hunt in Kansas every year. Granted I hunt on private land and lease 3 different leases there. I dont have an opinion on it, but if I had to hunt public, I would definitely not want them to be banned.

Here in MO years ago we had the ability to vote on whether we should change when gun season starts. We as hunters came out and voted almost unanimously to push it back to December out of the rut. The politicians vetoed it and said that they wanted to keep the tradition of having it in November before Thanksgiving. But we all know it was all about the money. It just pisses me off why even put it out there for a vote.

This seems like a constitutional rights violation. I can take pictures and videos anywhere I want to in a public place. I'm 50/50 on this one. I don't need one but a person should be allowed to use one if they wish. I actually hate them because I tend to get hung up on a big buck if seen on a trailcam and will sometimes neglect my other spots that also have potential for a bruiser.

On the other hand I have a constitutional right to life liberty and pursuit of happiness and that happiness being not having my picture took while I’m in the middle of nowhere. Your rights don’t get to over ride other’s rights. Not a hard concept if one’s not lazy and selfish😉

I am with tod. I am 64 and never used trail cameras in the past and did much better in those days than now days. however i hunt central Florida where deer never use the same bedding areas. We use them mainly to see how far they travel. We can get a pic of a buck on a camera and the next day get another pic of him a mile and a half away. I really love the amazing pics you can capture on cameras of many other things than deer.

I'm all for trail cams and cellular cams -- legally. I'm in Wisco. The regulations state each cam must have the DNR number and owners name. With all the scouting I do, I always find cams = and only one had the proper ID on it. Same with treestands - I'd love you guys to do a show discussing how unethical it is to leave tree stands where it is illegal. Thank you for the content...and I love hunting mobile your beast stand Dan!

Hi. Thought I would give my 2 cents. Was for cams now against. Been hunting public in many states for over 30yrs. How cams are being used and how many there are in the field has gotten out of hand. Couldn’t finish the video. I knew before watching where you’d stand based and friendship with exodus. I believe they should be banned on public and during hunting season. Dan’s frustration was apparent when on several scouting missions he kept running into cameras. Can’t justify something based on fact there still be criminals doing it. The overwhelming comments for that exodus video wasn’t in support. Plus it isn’t from people that don’t own or use them. It’s how there being abused. I shouldn’t have to walk threw the woods having video and pics taken every few hundred yards. People also think the camera lays claim to a location. Old school scouting is Dan’s thing. That’s why I watch. Inventory of deer on private is one thing. But people are using them to hunt. If you watch enough KZfaq videos it becomes apparent.

Things could be much worse. You can still hunt. You can still do what you want in your hunting life. All that is gone is public land cams. No big deal to me. Some of this is land claim. "I have cams in this public spot so this spot is mine!" The guys complaining the most are the guys (and gals) that are too dependant on tech and gizmos to be successful.

Trail cams have almost become an obsession to a lot of hunters. It’s about .001% of my strategy. I’ve seen them do more harm than good for some hunters who become reliant on them. I can honestly say I have never ran a camera on public land. I own 2 cams, 1 card cam and 1 cell cam that I run on my own land and permission land for inventory purposes only or to let me know if a new buck has shown up during the rut that I didn’t otherwise know about. Cameras don’t tell the whole story, they’re just a small snapshot of what’s happening in my humble opinion.

Man can’t take a piss in the middle of nowhere with out the Possibility of being on film or picture. Now that robs a man of his happiness which is a constitutional violation that’s why they should be outlawed on all public property. Whether you agree or not doesn’t matter it’s the individual even if it’s just one that it bothers that’s enough to outlaw it. @KeepinYouUp07

@todlew3238 Depends on the state too. Muzzleloader is the last 2 weeks of the season for me. I got the woods pretty much to myself after the orange army laid down their Mossberg assault shotguns 😆. The muzzleloader tech is nice, but I still hunt archery style with it. 1 shot is still challenging...I'd never bank on being able to pop off 2 at the same deer.

I usually agree with Dan on everything but the opinion that if it’s legal on private it should be legal on public doesn’t make sense. That’d mean ladder stands could be left on public, food plots could be developed, and UTV’s could be driven everywhere. Idc about trail cams. I just think people are short changing themselves the experience of a hard.

Modern technology is not going to hurt the deer population. If people are more successful and finding better quality deer people are less likely to take the 4 point or a doe and wait to harvest the mature deer that have produced offspring. In reality most people can’t understand enough to actually use the technology to become a better hunter.

Sort of like how technology in fishing is leading to the large fish being harvested and the small ones are left to do all the breeding resulting in smaller and smaller fish. Naturally the young and small are the most vulnerable and that leads to a stronger species. That is best for the species if you want larger, stronger animals.

cell cams are ruining it for everyone .. with a regular sd card cam, you have to make the effort to go in, pull the card, etc. not knowing what is there and what you are going to find .. with a cell cam, you can be remotely alerted that a deer is standing there and go after him at that moment in time .. if people don't understand the ethical difference, I am not sure what else to say.
