Isn't it ironic? This song is about the impermanence of everything we do, and yet, after all these decades, it still remains a masterpiece.

Ironic only on its face. And begs the answer of the extreme antipodes and dualistic nature of the universe, like in "Dust In The Wind" -Kansas Vs "Endless Dream" -Yes or "I'm dying - I'm alive" -Jim Morrison

I played this at my daughter’s funeral. She loved Kansas and often played this song. I am weeping as I listen to this. Please love those around you because when they are gone all you have left is the dust of their dreams.

This song reminds me of how short life is, I'm 75 now and still working as a master craftsman, restoring old buildings. I'm using tools that I have had for 60 years and some tools that my father gave me which are over 100 years old. The tools look like they were made yesterday, I look like I was made 75 years ago. This alone brings home to me my own mortality and how fleeting everything is. I still have a metal milk saucepan that wife and I won at a raffle, it is still new looking after 50 years of use. My wife has now gone to beyond the sunset, and I am still here with all the memories. Take time to smell the roses everybody before that kind old nurse called death rocks us all to sleep.

I'm 4x, started sharing similar feeling when I tidy up my camera boxes, seeing those gears bought for 15 years plus, feeling those are just from yesterday. My parents and I were so young when I took photos with those gears. Take care senior, we can only grab present moment.

Oh my gosh you brought back memories of when I was young n would go with my dad to the milk farm n get big jugs of milk right from the cow n take it home it was deliscious. We would jump in the haystacks n just be normal kids all good memories all gone im 75 now but still have quite a bit of spunk n this song is beautiful n true to the point

Sitting here crying. Can't help it. I bought this album for my son in early 1978 I believe . He was 12 and he really liked Kansas and Boston at the time. A great kid who grew up with a real appreciation of classic rock . I absolutely loved being his father and watching him grow into a man. He and I became the very best of friends when he got older . I have personally never seen a father and son as close as we were. We worked together for 15 years and never had one argument . Pancreatic cancer stole my son from me and my life is not and never will be the same for me . I miss him so . Sleep well my son you are always in my heart and in my mind also .

Yes. I was diagnosed with cancer three years ago. I’m okay now. It changed me. I gave up what I was. Stuck and lonely. Lost. Now, I surrender. We are all on borrowed time. Every hug, kiss, day and night, make them count. A freedom that I never understood before. The clearing at the end of the path comes to us all and the Dark Goddess will take your hand. Go well and blessed be. ❤

Not many realize this song is a paraphrase of a passage in the book Ecclesiastes in the bible. I played guitar and sang this at my dad's memorial service a month ago and barely got through it without breaking down. He was a great example of someone from the 'Greatest Generation' from WWII. He didn't preach at us kids, he lead by example. My very favorite memory of him happened when I was nine years old. All six of us were eating supper in a cramped corner of a hovel of a kitchen, and us four kids were laughing and cutting up with dad. Mom got frustrated and asked why we couldn't have a nice quiet supper. Dad told her "I'd rather hear them laughing than crying." I greatly miss our conversations while sipping a cup of coffee with you dad.

it's really the best song ever, if you include both music and lyrics. In contrast other songs like Bohemian Rhapsody, Smoke on the water, Billy Jean, We Will Rock you or Stairway to Heaven are musically great but their lyrics are a bit silly, and not as great as those here. My runner up after Dust in the Wind is Imagine from Lennon.

This song was played by the teachers at my kindergarten. I still remember those moments, when I was a child and nothing mattered, I was just beginning to know this world. How time flies, what nostalgia. Finally, I found the song, i never knew its name until I heard it in a movie. Now I'm 23 years old, and I understand the lyrics, but I don't believe our actions are worthless. A small gesture can change another person's life, or that of a living being, or the planet. Action or inaction does matter, to the extent of leaving a legacy.

Sorry for your brother. I lost the love of my life some 20 years ago to brain cancer. She died much too young and too sudden. We "only" got 15 years together. The lyrics of this song could have been taken from the Bible. It tells that humans is just like grass. Here today - gone tomorrow. I believe I will see my love again. That gives comfort and makes dying easier. Trust in the Lord of Heaven : Jesus ! This song is like a hymn to me. It tells the truth about our time here on earth.

Lyrics: I close my eyes Only for a moment, and the moment's gone All my dreams Pass before my eyes, a curiosity Dust in the wind All they are is dust in the wind Same old song Just a drop of water in an endless sea All we do Crumbles to the ground, though we refuse to see Dust in the wind All we are is dust in the wind Now don't hang on Nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky It slips away And all your money won't another minute buy Dust in the wind All we are is dust in the wind (All we are is dust in the wind) Dust in the wind (Everything is dust in the wind) Everything is dust in the wind (In the wind)

This song could be a poem, and it still would be beautiful. When I was a junior in high school we were asked to name and explain our favorite song. This was my favorite song. I wrote out the lyrics and read them to the rest of the class. A classmate asked why I would like such a sad song. I said, "it's not sad, it's real." My father was undergoing chemotherapy for bladder cancer at the time. He had already had surgery. Most of that school year, and a little into my senior year I didn't say much of anything to anyone. I was too busy praying, all of my waking hours, for my father to live. He survived that cancer, and also later survived lung cancer due to cigarettes'. He quit the cigarettes''. It's a blessing to me, and the rest of the family that he's still alive and with us to this day. I took comfort in this song, and still do. Be thankful for the people you have in your life. Material things come and go, as do people. But, as I've learned, people are so much more important.

My mother spoke no English AT ALL when she first heard this song but immediately fell in love. She showcased this song to my brother and I when we were 7&5 and had us write the lyrics down and memorize the song. She was the most humble woman I have ever come across to this day, she passed away 2 years ago, I listen to this song in memory of her. Beautiful piece.

It shouldn't be possible, but unfortunately it is. I'm also convinced (no proof) that all KZfaq videos that reach a certain view rating are disliked by bots. Maybe it's to keep some sort of balance, but then you get ungracious little shits like Miley Cyrus and Ariana Grande hitting the 5 million plus likes mark. Probably more. I'm turning into a cranky old bastard but wouldn't change it for the world.

I forgot this song...A.I. helped me find it again by just describing. I am very happy to be able to listen to this again...my Father passed away after losing his leg. Talked to him on the phone went to see him and he was gone before I can see him...so I had to bury him. I gave him a final kiss good bye...still can't believe it. Never even imagined it would be that way... This song soothes and reminds me this is life. All our time will come, just make the best of it. My Father was strong he made the best of it and gave me and my brothers a comfortable life. Rest in Peace

Everything about this is beautiful: the harmonies, the lyrics, the guitar, the violin. I remember this song as a young girl. My older cousin used to listen to them rehearse on her way home from school sometimes. It just brings me back to such simpler times. I always loved it, but now at 53 I really understand it. The things we think are so important are temporal. Dust in the wind.
