@randumo24
@randumo24 Жыл бұрын
Jolteon was definitely NOT the most balanced. Sure it technically has Super effective moves against all 3, but Thunder coming off of base 100 special is FAR different than Pin Missle coming off a puny base 60 attack stat.
@trevorparker6400

@randumo24 in some fairness, pin missile being a bug move in gen 1 is 4x effective against venusaur, which somewhat offsets the stat difference

Vaporeon would massacre flareon and jolteon
@ThumbSipper
@ThumbSipper 2 жыл бұрын
@@5chneemensch138 flareon is way better in gen 1 because his main fault (low Sp.Att. with special STAB) doesn't actually exist. In gen 1 flareon has an enviable 110 Special meaning he can pull off a powerful Flamethrower and the ridiculously OP gen 1 Fire Spin. Add to that his high attack for the Sword Dance+Body slam combo and Flareon is in a pretty good spot, if he can get past Misty, Giovanni and Lorelei anyway. He is pretty damn slow tough... Jolteon however has crap attack, which is a problem since his only moves are normal attacks, pin missile and electric attacks. He may Sword dance+Dig for coverage, especially combined with his ridiculous speed, but it's not gonna work as well as it would for Flareon. Giovanni and Lance would be brick walls. Vaporeon stomps on both of them with a grin tough, like always.
@testerwulf3357
@testerwulf3357 2 жыл бұрын
@@ThumbSipper Jolteon does have some benefits though with it's high speed (thus high crit rate, it'll be critting a lot) and it can learn reflect which would help so much with it being frail..It also won't have too bad of a chance against the first few gyms. It also get's mimic! So it has a chance to learn some useful moves. Pin missile isn't the greatest move and a bit rng based but it's better than nothing for some of the more powerful types. Flareon only learns firespin late game like pretty much only the last gym maybe and elite 4, so it really isn't that helpful. Flareon is also a physical attacker, yet it's typing is special which isn't the most help..so if it faces a ghost type it'll struggle and it'll struggle with the beginning gyms type wise (it has nothing super effective to use on them and the best it has for brock is normal type moves which isn't great). It looks decent on paper but when you compare it in a solo run to gen 1 it'll struggle because of it's typing and lack of coverage (fire types suck a lot in gen 1, the layout is a bit against them). It doesn't get swords dance so it can't boost it's attack unless mimic is used..but at that point learning something else may be more of a benefit but that's debatable. Vaporeon however is really good, gets more coverage than other 2 with learning not just normal and it's type's moves but it gets some strong ice moves with decent cheese, it also is special which is perfect for the water typing so it benefits from surf so much. It's also more bulky thus it'll tank more hits and need less trips to a center to heal and will crush the beginning gyms and the elite 4. I honestly have no idea which would do better between jolteon and flareon..flareon with being slow in the beginning and ending or jolteon with it's lack of bulk? I feel like it could go a bit of either way though jolteon does have a bit of an advantage.

On your first Lance fight with Charizard, (uh, around 53 minutes), Charizard got paralyzed. If that happens, and you have Dig or Fly on your moveset, you should attempt that move. In gen 1, if you are in the invulnerable stage of Dig/Fly, and get fully paralyzed, you remain invulnerable until using the move again. It is kind of a free win. A bit cheesy, and not practical to guarantee, but worth exploiting when you have the opportunity.

Scott, I think Brock should be its own metric. I’ve noticed that the time it takes against Brock tends to depend heavily on moves learned early in the game. Pokémon not meant to be found at lower levels tend to be at a severe disadvantage by not having good moves available at a reasonable level. Im thinking there may be a way to break down your times into sections for more metrics: 1. Brock (time from beginning to beating Brock) 2. Exploding Hiker (CUT and the Cascade Badge are required. Thunder Badge is optional for this metric. Exploding Hiker is recommended as the mark for this leg) 3. 7 badges (Rocket story is finished, Rival Fival, time finishes once all seven badges are obtained) 4. Endgame (Earth Badge, Rival 6, Elite 4, and Champion.)

Venusaur's my favorite, so that's what I'm rooting for. It seems really good for solo runs based on what I've seen for just Bulbasaur alone. I did a solo FRLG (different gen, yeah, but same region, and worse AI and opponent movesets, and almost guaranteed crit razor leaf all day will all make it stronger in yellow) run as a kid, and it was probably the quickest and easiest run through of a pokemon game I've ever done. It was actually really fun just making one pokemon really strong, and while I've done other starter only playthroughs, I didn't find them noticeably overperforming as much as Venusaur. My GOAT.

Oh, this is a really nice christmas gift, thank you Scott ♥ I think that: -Venusaur is going to have a REALLY easy early game, however the mid to late game is going to be hard (Surge and Erika aren't easy, Koga, Sabrina and Blaine are hard, then there's Agatha, Lance and the Champion that are going to be difficult). -Charizard has a HARD early game, Brock and Misty are going to waste a lot of time, then it's not so difficult until Lorelei and the Champion, I don't think the rest are going to be hard at all. -Blastoise has a good start and then it slows down a bit (Misty, Surge, Erika) but then it will become quite easy until probably the Champion because it has access to some good moves, even Erika could be easy if you get Ice Beam early, but sadly Wartortle doesn't have a good Special stat. I put my vote in Venusaur, but this is going to be really close

As someone who's done minimum battle runs in Yellow with all 3 of the Kanto starters, I think you ended up with most of the "best" strategies with all of them. A couple of suggestions: For Venusaur vs Agatha, you could teach Mimic over Body Slam. Mimic Lick, then use it + Swords Dance to beat her a bit more consistently. Then Mimic could be used against the final trainers (on Gyarados' Hyper Beam and Sandslash's Earthquake) to finish the league out. For Blastoise, Withdraw is actually pretty decent. I do think it helps consistency against some fights, although, admittedly, it doesn't work everywhere. Not much you could do with Charizard that you didn't try; its good, but inconsistent.

Arcanine exists. Growlithe can be caught at a decent level on the outskirts of Celadon (where the gates are, in that patch of grass), and the fire stone is also buyable in Celadon department store. Like, feel free to choose who you want, but it's kinda hypocritical to say that there's lots of better water mon than Blastoise (Gyarados, Cloyster and Starmie are the only ones better than Blastoise in Gen 1), and sleep on the fact that Charizard ain't the best fire type even, when Arcanine exists. And by the way, Venusaur is the best grass type in Kanto. No grass type is better than Venu in its home region at least. So yeah.
@edgehead62888
@edgehead62888 2 жыл бұрын
@Eva White 1, I never said any of them were or were not the best of their type, I simply said that there are many easily catchable water types and grass types in the game, which there are. Nothing hypocritical about that at all. 2. You've mentioned 1 fire type. You can literally get an old rod in Vermillion City and have a Gyarados before you even see a fire type in the wild. And if you're playing Blue, you don't even see Growlithe in the wild unless you're playing the Japanese version. 3. Grass is one of the weakest types in the game, with Bug certainly taking the crown. I'm not sure how Venusaur being the best of a mediocre type is telling me it's better than Charizard, which is more of a middling type in fire. So yeah

I think your round 1 data actually explains a lot of why people like the Charmander line: it's extremely fast in the early game. During this part of the game you're super limited on the Pokemon you can use and the ones you can are pretty meh against the common trainers while Charmander just nukes then down. I know whenever I played gen 1 I just used Charmander through the first 3 or 4 gyms and then started rounding out a full team once there are more pokemon/move types available. Also, love your content! It's been awesome to watch your journey from your early Butterfree runs all the way through til now. I often watch your content as I wind down for sleep, so hopefully the KZfaq algorithm likes when I go back and watch the same video multiple times from falling asleep. Keep up the awesome work!

Prediction time. 3rd place: Charizard, but maybe not as far behind as lost anticipate. He's got speed and decent special, but really only shines in mid game. 2nd place: Venusaur, but it's close. Speed is going to be the biggest detriment. Has decent move pool and good early and late game matchups. 1st place: Blastoise. Ok speed, great move pool, similar advantages to Venusaur but isn't scared of rivals Alakazam and can handle most of Elite 4.

@DonYagamoth

Let's see, assuming you start with their full evolution they start with the following moves: Charizard: - Scratch - Growl - Ember - Leer Blastoise: - Tackle - Tail Whip - Bubble - Watergun Venusaur: - Tackle - Growl - Leech Seed - Vine Whip I figured, maybe their starting moves are going to heavily impact their Brock performance. But while Charizard has a type disadvantage, Ember is still kind of decent because of Geodudes and Onix' low special stat. And that time to Mt. Moon actually may be even be better than the others, because it can dispatch all the bug catchers much quicker. So I predict the early game to be reasonably even. Gym 2 is where I think Charizard will have to get Bodyslam before Misty, and lose a bit of time later due to backtracking.. Or maybe Bide could come in handy. And while Blastoise could probably defeat Misty early, I'm not sure that's worth it, since it may not be the wisest choice to immediately defeat Surge anyways, and with Bodyslam Misty should be a fair bit faster. Charizard may struggle a bit on the Hiker in the dark tunnel, but beyond that I think it'll be fine... So.. Since I have no idea how it'll actually be play out, here's my semi-random prediction: - Blastoise will be last. While it's strong, it is mostly defensively oriented. It can dispatch Lance probably the easiest thanks to Blizzard though, so that may be a sticking point for the other two - Venusaur will be 2nd. I think the biggest difficulty is going to be Agatha, since it doesn't really have a useful coverage move to hit the ghost types. But I feel like until then, it may actually be faster than both of the others - Charizard will be 1st, as it's reasonably offensively oriented. Acquiring Slash early and later and Swords Dance will allow it to sweep reasonably well, and potentially overcoming the early weakness So... No idea how it'll play out in the video. But Scott, thanks a ton for your effort, your videos. It has been a delight watching you grow as a content creator this year, your spin on the challenge runs is really refreshing, and I do actually adore your somewhat dorky demeanor. Looking forward to actually watching it :)

@GigaOtomia
@GigaOtomia 2 жыл бұрын
@@erik19borgnia This is likely not going to be the case, considering how the rest of Scott's runs have gone. He uses the Universal Pokemon Randomizer to change the data in the ROM to give him whatever starter he wants, and declines the rest of the options that would actually randomize the game. Then, if he's using a Pokemon that can evolve, he explicitly doesn't evolve it to preserve the integrity of the run - see Sandshrew. He never evolved it into a Sandslash. He'll likely start with a Venusaur, Charizard, or Blastoise, all at level 5, depending on the run.

That poor Charizard was handicapped by a really bad moveset. Why run Dig over Earthquake? Slash AND Swords Dance? WHY?? If it had had Flamethrower, Body Slam, Swords Dance, and Earthquake/Fire Spin, with that last move replaced by Hyper Beam after Agatha, it would have had a pretty easy time with the E4, although still would have been the worst starter due to struggles with the first 2 gyms.

I've come to a conclusion recently that Bulbasaur is some kind of Synapsid Stem-Mammal (formerly known as "Mammal-Like Reptiles") that dominated the Permian period and the early Triassic before the Dinosaurs evolved. The most famous of these including Dimetrodon, Moschops, and Lystrosaurus.

most used the Starter only for Brock and then switched over to Nidoking to finish the game, Squirtle learns bubble at level 8 and can beat brock with that, Bulbasaur needs level 13 to get vine whip so squirtle beats the start of the game faster to power up nidoking and provides a surf pokemon without having to fish or capture one.

Venasaur: Toxic and leach seed glitch, razor leaf 90% critrate, no energyball or leaf blade or sludge bomb/fairy types yet though. Charizard benefits the most of the three from the special stat split. Fire punch makes the long wait until flamethrower less painful. Blastoise: Surf, Icebeam, Earthquake, (bodyslam for Gen 1) or (Outrage for emulators or confusion for those into breeding in Gen 2.)
