Kanye West Risks His Life On Stage, Just Like Soldiers

"Kanye West is in the midst of a worldwide Yeezus concert tour and every night he takes the stage to perform, the rapper says he is endangering his life just like a a policeman or soldier in war.
In a new radio interview with SaturdayNightOnline, the rapper says "I'm just giving of my body on stage ... I'm putting my life at risk. This is like being a police officer or war or something."
After saying his life is like "The Hunger Games" right now, West says of his concert, "I feel like it's not just a performance.""* The Young Turks hosts Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian break it down.

Well, I don't know about the last but Dimebag Darrel was shot and killed on stage in 2004 as well as three other people including the band's head of security who attempted to tackle the gunman. I'm totally not saying Kanye is right with what he's saying because he's most definitely not, but it has happened and I'm sure it has happened more recently. Again, not saying Kanye is right. xD

I saw the first Kanye video I've ever seen 2 days ago with him on a motorcycle. It was so bad... it might be the worst thing I've ever seen... EVER! I mean, I watched a Mexican cartel beheading a few weeks ago on the internet and that was pretty goddamn awful, I've seen 2 girls do things to 1 cup that I'll never forget, and I've spent a few years wiping people's diseased assholes for a living... but that Kanye video was so fucking awful that I feel like I lost something permanently I will never get back... Kanye took it a step further than needed, but he's actually quite right you know? He does risk his life on stage, seeing as there are quite a lot of people that dislike him. Think about every single person that's been either shot or assaulted while on stage, then think back to Kanye. Sure, he's ignorant and self-absorbed, but he's actually right on this; He endangers himself while on stage (Especially after I've read through all these hate comments on him), but not quite to the level of a soldier in a war. Being a soldier is outlandish and disgusting in itself, more or less in which war or which country you're speaking about. They're paid to risk their lives and take other's. Anyhow, you're completely missing my point, Mr Fedora...He's risking his life by being on stage, he has plenty of "enemies". Just take a look at 50 Cent, Tupac or Bob Marley. However when we hear about the thousands of innocents that are dying because of American soldiers, people that did die because of American soldiers. To be fair you can replace the American with any other organized army. Anybody no matter if their a soldier has a chance to lose their life, it all depends on the circumstances. Your logic falls flat. His job isn't nearly as dangerous as you or other people claim. Shit, just by going to work or taking the highway to go to college every day I risk getting killed in a traffic accident on a regular basis, but I don't go out and compare myself to someone who is a public servant or a soldier, that is just moronic. People get death threats and creepy shit all the time when they are famous but most don't ever have to worry about those threats being followed through. Or take people who work construction or work in factories, those jobs can be dangerous too but they would never compare themselves to police or soldiers either. It just isn't a good comparison.

In fact, his life is in danger just as much as yours or mine outside of the stage, because he too can all get a drive-by all of a sudden, he too can get overrun by traffic. What I said was simple; He risks his life on stage. But not nearly as much as some other professions can be risky. Don't take it any other way.

I still wonder whether or not Kanye West himself believes the things he says or if he simply understands the marketing value behind it.. That being said I disagree on 1 thing the police officer said "Entertainers thinking they are more than just that - Entertainers". Without question, Entertainers are more than that. I am not saying they should be, but society allong with the entertainers themselves have turned them in to that. If something is wrong, your Politicians/President won't fix it - so it's up to Kanye West to create 'Murder to Excellence' or 'New Slaves' to reflect the problem back to the people that has existed for decades if not centuries. And what about tabloids and crap - people litterally invest in to every step celebrities take. If the people as a collective pay more attention to Kanye West defining himself as the nucleus of a culture than they do to Obama Drone striking foreigners or Snowden being exiled as a traitor - I'm convinced entertainers are far more than just entertainers. What they are exactly I couldn't tell you. The drug to look the other way? To numb you from the actual complicated mess that is happening beyond the world of tabloids and everyday distractions?

Oh my GOD! This is a conversation I've been having in my head that I haven't quite been able to properly express. You've hit the nail on the head. There are a few celebrities I follow in the context of their work, but when people are idolized for utter lack of talent, it boggles my mind. In an interview with Barbara Walters, she told kim straight, yet tactfully that she had no talent. I don't even need to contextualize the name kim for people to know who I'm talking about. She got famous by dating Pro Athletes, and hit big with a sex tape, and small girls wait in line to take pictures with her. This is a behavior we teach our kids as well. It's frustrating, yet in some ways understandable. With social networking we allow ourselves to build vicarious relationships to people who don't know we exist.

If he.. and other touring celebrities weren't in such danger.. then why would they waste millions of dollars on security personnel... If it was more dangerous being a cop than an artist, why would the artist hire an entire police brigade to protect him at venues??? Performing for certain crowds in and off itself is like a suicide mission. fuck being some fat ass cop on patrol In olde safe ass USA. most soldiers don't get as many days in action as most rappers are exposed to violent unpredictable crowds daily.. Its a masterpiece within itself to have one of these events happen without a hitch. I know and I'm a small time promoter. Security is a very serious and costly issue.. even for the little nobodies.. imagine someone like kanye.. research some more on celebrity threats stalkers.. and attacks sure they have millions and prevent most of them.. but so what.. this does not make the danger and worry any less real for people who do nothing but sing and dance.

There are risks associated with some sets for movies etc., injuries can occur. HOWEVER, Kaynes fear of risk is associated with his irrational and paranoid fear of being shot by someone sitting in his audience. He has offended SO MANY people with his lack of self control and respect towards those that are actually risking their lives daily in occupations that employ the very people that protect him! Kayne has no ability to feel empathy towards anyone. This is often associated with sociopathy. He is so delusional and scary that I fear for the Kardashion family. They should insist that he gets help. At anytime a conceived "micro aggression " from a family member could turn deadly.

Being a cop, statistically speaking, is pretty much the least dangerous profession you can have without having a desk job. Let me put this in perspective. Your trash guy is 82% more likely to die on the job than a cop. Being a cop is almost exactly the same amount of danger as being a taxi driver. Truckers are 48% more likely to die in the line of duty than patrol officers.

I'm not sure if someone has made the point yet, but the reason there is so much security at concerts and such is 1. the artist is an investment for the record companies and labels. 2. you have to protect the audience as well. I don't personally like Kanye's music, but he has the right to perform if he wants, and he should be able to be safe, but please dont compare yourself to our troops or public servants, thats just a bad comparison for all reasons.

That last line in the cop's letter: "Leading entertainers to believe they are something more than just entertainers" is such a degrading statement. To me, rap music is more than just entertainment, it's poetry, it's inspiration. Perhaps not Kanye West in particular, but rappers that you don't hear on the radio that actually try to send a a message that involves deep issues that are considered taboo to be addressed in main stream media. I personally don't like Kanye West's music, but I think TYT is being very close minded in this particular issue.

But to compare himself, or his risks, to soldiers fighting in WARS and police officers is just stupid, if you'll pardon me. For one thing, that's totally beside the point, Kanye also travels with a troupe of bodyguards. No soldier or police officer does that. But that's again beside the point.
