This area high above the Kaprun valley consist of two reservoirs - it almost seems like fjords, however this impressive world of water and dam wall construction was built to generate hydroelectricity. The turbines are hidden behind the mighty dam walls and run at full speed to generate electricity powered by water in abundance throughout the whole year.
The Mooserboden Dam is 107 m high and 500 m long.
Getting up there is an experience on its own, as well. A bus takes you up from a public parking lot and drops tourists to take the next step via the famous “inclined lift Lärchwand”. This lift is Europe's largest open lift and crosses an incline of 431 metres on the way. Take the next bus from there and you can finally reach the mountain reservoir area.
Up there you can enjoy views on the reservoirs from different levels, walks as well as hiking adventures.
