"Pivot" podcast host Kara Swisher tells "Face the Nation" that amid the Hollywood strikes, the real issue is the shift to streaming, which, while "necessary and important," is "expensive" and "the economics aren't worked out."

The strain on these streaming companies would be less if they didnt give the CEO's over 100 million dollars a year. Just saying.

Distribution and reach is way cheaper for the studios via streaming yet they don't pass that profit along in any form, which is wrong.

Another example of allowing companies to get too big and relying on them to act fairly. They don't and never will. The streamers are notoriously greedy, and their Wall Street owners are worse, as we have seen time and time again. If you want equity and balance, restrict companies from getting so big and diverse they dramatically influence global economics. It's obvious how that will turn out.

To me it doesn't matter how good or bad the Meta substitute for Twitter is, what worries me is again giving Zuckerberg the monopoly of social media. It would be naive to think he won't take advantage of the monetization power and "to big to fail" this creates.

The great irony is that AI needs artists more than artists need AI. If you train AI continuously on AI generated content, it degrades and becomes rubbish. See Futurism’s article “AI Loses Its Mind After Being Trained on AI-Generates Data” and The Independent’s “Scientists warn of threat to Internet from AI-Trained AIs.” The original creators of the data that is used to train AI add the greatest value or, in economic jargon, provide the greatest value added. Yet Big Tech would like to pretend otherwise. So not only is this unethical, it’s shortsighted and could have disastrous consequences. It turns out doing the right thing (ensuring you get consent, giving credit where it’s due, and fairly compensating artists) would have also been the smart thing. AI companies need real visual artists, musicians, writers, actors, voice actors, etc. While most of us would be more than happy to go on without them. Furthermore, the majority of people do not want AI. It’s most fervent supporters are, predictably, the tech corporations ripping off artists and the public to take and profit from our data, which is all that makes AI valuable. The AI hype is just that-hype. It takes from the hard and excellent work of humans to generate lookalike or soundalike work. Nothing transformative about it.

Ooof. Not sure why streaming is "necessary" or "Important," compared to the the theatrical experience when it's clear the number of platforms that can survive a consumer culling is maybe three, tops. The theatrical that feeds an ecosystem of streaming later is far more essential. The surreal alt-world Threads segment near the end was like a fever dream of some PR firm, LoL.

I still don’t understand how union contracts were dismissed upon the transfer to streaming services. The amount of eyes on a product were massively increased , yet the the contracts were somehow voided? I’m really confused as to how this legally happened and became an issue to begin with. Doesn’t the material ( film , show, etc) hold financial responsibility of proper payouts as it changes hands and beyond [ in perpetuity]?

AI is projected to affect many many industries around the world. This isn't one industry undergoing a transition. Where are you going to go? This is going to eliminate lots of jobs. If you are a lawyer, if AI writes contracts and other stuff, and you just check it that means less work available to humans, resulting in less lawyers. And that could happen to many industries. And where do these millions of people go if AI is everywhere across industries so all of them can't retrain? That's why we need AI regulations.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say. First you say that there's not enough time in the day for all the content on steaming to watch it all but then you follow up with too much of it being garbage. I'd agree with you except for the first part about there being to much content to watch. If there's so much garbage then filter that out. I can't find enough content to watch to fill up a couple hours that isn't garbage.

It is not "necessary" to have a million streaming platforms. Consumers are not going to pay for 4-5 + streaming platforms. How is that different from cable? Actually, it is worse because the streaming companies are now raising prices due to expensive productions and drop in viewership. There is absolutely no reason for Paramount or AMC to have a streaming platform. They should have negotiated licensing terms with other established streaming platforms instead and focused on what they do best. This is what happens when people want to innovate just for the sake of innovation. People bought into the "streaming is the future" hype and blindly went along. Now they have fallen off a cliff and are bleeding cash. Sad.

Biggest question who blink frist and how much. Can writers and actors get public support really break Netflix and Apple and Google and apparently disney of world going either bad pr or breaking their wallets. From matt demon new company Amazon show open honest and fair completely and honestly doubtful but world live in apple i cloud only secure till isnt and predict not matter if but when big companies massive data leak and made change but may long way down road but I don't see apple or Disney or Netflix giving fair honest shake until hurts enough in ceo and company pr and pocket books. If Amazon was wise figure out way open writers and actors even if ithers refuse. Be great pr and while doubt Amazon prime video hurt anytime soon for new content and amazon go at least long as Netflix because boat loads money off aws for Netflix app etc.

Streaming is the only choice for me on any shows or movies. I works and play hard and my time is important, so being in my own home is a huge deal. I don't see how the entertainment industry makes much money at all with streams compared to cable deals, and theaters charge for seeing the show. I can understand both sides of this, but feel the investor gets the nod over the everyone else. I don't see how they're making money doing this, so the demands are more akin to a desperation as an industry is evolving, and has to first find it's footing.
