Wheelies are something that everyone wants to learn, they look cool, they feel cool and they are just sick to show off in front of your mates. I have been trying to learn them for ages now and I started on my regular anologue bike. I started to get the hang of it but couldn't pedal with the wheel up for very long. I then thought that learning them on an ebike might be easier as the bike has the power to shoot the front wheel up. So I am now trying to master the wheelie on my ebike with the help of Tom Cardy who is coaching me through the process.
I hope you enjoy the video!
Kara :)

After watching the whole video - You just need to put in more effort. You gotta commit. You have literally all the right steps. I dont think you even need the manual machine. You just need to get out there tomorrow and practice, and the next day, and everyday until you get it. I bet you could do it in under 1 week if you stuck with it. Toms a great coach, and you WILL get this. My #1 tip (since you asked at the end) is to COMMIT. Imagine you are at the gym trying to punch in a new record weight. You got this!

I think the E-bike is the wrong choice to learn on. Start with learning to wheelie the jump bike. It's smaller and lighter, and the low seat will make it easier to bail off the back if you need too. You also need to be a lot more aggressive with your upper body to pull the front wheel up. At the moment it looks like you're relying on the electric motor too much. But eventually you will get that "light bulb moment" when it all falls into place.

In your inner ear there is a floating fluid sac the size of a pin head called the Saccule. When you lean back to far it bumps up against tiny hairs connected to nerve endings. When this happens, your body goes into total freak out mode and you feel like you are going to fall. I think some people are less sensitive to it or learn to ignore it. This is what I think about when I see people do wheelies cause im a nerd.

I think you can kind of get really used to the feeling you described, it just takes a bit of time, even more extreme sensation when you try your first backflips.

Good Work Kara, keep it up. With me i learned to wheelie sitting up (not on the seat), just by standing up and i've just been used to it. Like i would stand up on the bike while pedalling then as i pull up the bike, i would sit down and continue pedalling. Sometimes even now i fall off my bike or harshly brake a bit hard, but still learning as i only have a hardtail now. But keep up the great work and videos you're posting.

What I like to do is practice jumping off a bunch. Helps me know what to expect. In this case, I'd power through until you loop out. Unlike manuals, because your weight's on your seat, I find it easy to hop off. Keep it up!

Stick with it Kara. Wheelie every time you ride. I'm sure Tom has told you it's not just a cool trick, it teaches so much about balance and bike/body awareness. It also has some utility, like low speed drops or getting up over things. Also... It will help you'll crack the manual and that makes a huge difference to how hard you can shred. Also... sorry for banging on, being used to the front end being high and how to get it there you'll ace the bunny hop in time too. Religiously forcing yourself to learn those and sessioning on every ride will open up a whole new world of awesome shredding and boost jumps 😀 It's so cool that you're documenting the journey, because it's hard and You're showing people that it's all about determination and paractice.🤜

You should use a lighter regular bike and learn to pop a wheelie without pedalling. You should be able to pull up the front wheel and jump off the back without pedalling. A smaller bike, maybe even a BMX bike, would get you to be able to do it. Then maybe your DJ bike (If you have another one coming). A shorter chainstay helps as would the 26 inch wheels. A higher rise handlebar helps also.

I need to finally get my ass in to gear and learn to wheelie. I recently saw a video on Facebook which had a hamster that can wheelie further and better than me.

One of these wheelie videos someone said to keep your arms straight. I don't know if that's a real thing, but it might help.

Good video. I wouldn't worry about the manual machine. If you look at the video, your weight is too far forward. Your arms should be straighter and your weight further back. Your pedaling fast to make up for not being on the balance point, which you can only sustain for a short period of time.

Good try...keep up the practice...I think you just need to muster up some more confidence..You will master the wheelie in no time...maybe try on some softer ground ...stay confident ...I cant wait to see you master it....cheers 🇨🇦

Learn to manual first. Raise your seat. Think geometry and weight distribution when it comes to lifting the front wheel unless you wanting to power wheelie. Learn a regular bike and then transfer those skills to the ebike. Getting your weight over that rear axle. Watch some how to manual videos, and some wheelie videos. But learn to manual first, once you “get” the balance spot, then you can pedal. Wheelies are fun and they increase the control you have over your bike. Ebikes are amazing…just saying

I tink use your lighter bike...shift to the largest or 2nd largest sprocket...cycle to stabilise yourself then light brake close to a stop then do the normal compress n pop n standby to flip over...with these you'll will experience the balance point...Just Commit!!!

Don't worry Kara, I am still working on wheelies too. Keep practising. 👍 All my bikes don't have motors and are all set up differently and I think the best bike I have used is actually the dirt jumper. It is short, low and best of all, no rear suspension to absorb any power I put into the wheelies. It is the first bike I've done a small manual on, freaked myself out as I had never done one before and I have been wanting to do it again ever since. Listening to Tom explain the technique is great. He is the perfect guy to help you. Have fun. Handy hint warm up 1st so you don't injure yourself.
