This is sheer meditation ! What a reverberating Thani ! Guru Karaikudi Mani sir plays with pristine clarity. The misra nadai is like a moving train on a bridge. The "vallinam" and "mellinam" are played so aesthetically. Mani sir and UKS sir are two cornerstones of Indian Percussion Art.

I heard all great vidwans of past and current generations and every one is unique in their own way... However, Mani sir in this out of the World performance has show a totally new dimension altogether... the fluency of the beat and the clarity at that Godly speed is some thing I never heard before.... Mr Karaikudi Mani . I have been fortunate enough to listen to Palghat mani’s talented performance 60 years ago in Chennai . Now I listen to Palghat Mani again thro your perfect beautiful performance. That is to say in the Karaikudi Mani I see Palghat Mani You are one step even better .Living 50 years in the west , still I am enjoying true Talented artist’s performance Like yours . God bless.

Even when playing a very fast speed, you can hear every single one of Mani Sir's notes! It takes a huge amount of practice to get such clarity. The Korvai after 22:37 is just spectacular.

Beautiful instrument, beautiful video., beautiful playing! Would you still recommend this drum for young athletes/sports people? I wanted to ask if playing with a heavy drum on your leg for long periods (i.e. for arrangatrums/long shows) can cause postural problems that are difficult to reverse? I'm just noting that the two hips will be in asymmetrical positions, as will the spine. Will not affect the long term arrangement of the hips and spine?

There is something called "Asana Sidhi" in yoga. If you practice to sit in a posture for minimum 4.5 hours, without moving, you could be considered to have gained asana sidhi. Such situations, the human body would adapt and accept it. But that is not gained all on a sudden one fine day morning. Eventual and gradual practice takes you there. Mani sir, the maestro playing in this video, and other great masters, had been doing daily practicing up to 8-10 hours continuously. Sheer Dedication and perseverance. Hope you now understand...
