I grew up with a physically disabled parent who became restricted to a wheelchair at the start of my life. one thing that I know from my experience is that it’s more than chores. he would ask me to do chores that we both could do- but would make it my responsibility simply because being fully abled made the task easier, no matter how busy I was. and that’s acceptable every once in a while- but when you have a parent who recently permanently disabled, and hasn’t yet fully processed what that means- there’s this whole grieving process, mental health and social dynamic shift in their lives. my dad for example, had so much going on he didn’t consider how much he was putting onto me. He spent my childhood depressed, so my dad glued to the couch for hours not willing to shift to his wheel chair, would shout across the house for me to bring him things, water, soda, cigarettes, lighters, remote, phone, ash tray, snacks, full plates of food, whatever you name it. He’d do this all day, 7 days a week. eventually, when I was still pretty young he forgot what please and thank you meant. so he’s screaming my name across the house, and ordering me to grab something, and not saying thank you, multiple times a day. oh and if I said “in a minute” or “gimme a second” he say “do what I said, right now,” and if I ever said no, he would lose his mind call me everything under the sun starting with disrespectful and lazy through the R-slur and fat. it didn’t matter if I was busy with literal homework, he’d expect me to stop what I was doing and wait on him like a maid. when I got older I realized the disrespect for me and my time I became “disrespectful” right back. my mouth never got as lethal as this girls, but if it had I would’ve put my safety at risk, as my father had gotten violent with me for saying less. it was definitely more than chores because my chores where all still expected along with waiting on him hand and foot while he also expected perfection from a child because I was abled and it should be “easy.” I also noticed how the mom blew a fuse when the daughter mentioned mace and was using more intimidating communication tactics with her daughter in that moment and It was just way too familiar for me. as well the mother expecting the daughter to have adult responses mentally and emotionally while expecting her to stay in a child’s place socially. This may not be the same as my situation, but there is definitely so much more to this dynamic that I don’t think the daughter has the maturity or words to articulate yet. I hope they both get the long term help they need.

People smile when they feel uncomfortable, afraid, nervous, unsafe, etc. To come on stage and be that vulnerable about your trauma at 14 years old alongside a mother who is so angry and unwilling to model forgiveness and healthy behavior... I do not blame her for smiling. It was uncomfortable and she likely did not feel safe. You know what the daughter did do though? The daughter TRIED. Which is more than I can say for the mother. She TRIED to reach out. She TRIED to apologize. She tried. Even though it likely was not comfortable. Please remember that this is a traumatized CHILD. It would behoove all of us to not pass judgement, attack, or hold her to adult standards, especially when they adults in her life don't even hold themselves to the same standard.

People are blaming the child but fail to realize it starts at home. Whatever you put into your child’s ears pours from their mouths. Although it doesn’t make it right for the daughter to be disrespectful to her mother.. I think it’s time the adults as parents take accountability for what they say and do to their children. Words hurt and they stick… these are learned behaviors that turn into anger and resentment because there is a disconnect in communication. If you cannot learn how to properly communicate with your children don’t expect them to know how to effectively communicate with you. It is your job to be the BIGGER PERSON (the adult). Even if it is hard, it is your job as parents to teach them. This is why children grow up hating their parents because their whole childhood they’ve felt like their parents hate them.

Y’all do not understand. The mother is supposed to set an example for her kids. And it doesn’t take a psychologist to know that parents have in influence on their kids. The girl is clearly under pressure from everything she has to do and the mother refuses to understand that. Specially in relationships like these you don’t know everything thats going on with your children. She could very well be struggling at school or having a hard time to do all the chores or whatever, and her mom doesn’t want to acknowledge that and say shes lazy.I’m not saying the mother’s feelings aren’t valid but she has to understand that as the adult you always have to be the more responsible one, that’s part of growing up. Notice how the mother even started shouting at the host, not with the same agression but still. She is easily angered and that little girl is taking after her. Kids don’t know how to show restraint, so her anger is being shown to its fullest. Notice how when the host started talking to her like a normal human she softened and even started saying sorry after disrupting him? Her laughing, smiling and being disrespectful is a coping mechanism. I know that because I did the exact same thing to my parents. She won’t even accept her apology and immediately cussed her out. Im not completely excusing her actions but the mom is stooping down to her level as an adult, she is to blame.

this show is sort of like therapy trying to help people. when i was forced into therapy at exactly her age because of many household issues that were out of my control, i sat there with the therapist smirking too. it’s a way to cope, she’s in survival mode and smirking and laughing is how she shows her suffering bc her household and nervous system taught her not to cry and put up walls exactly like the behavior her mother was displaying. it’s so insane how everyone wants to call her a brat when the mother is the role model. her family went through a traumatic event, and that little girl was the one who found her mother in that state. imagine being that young and seeing your mother physically wounded and having to call 911. imagine the panic she also felt. the whole household felt the same things. it’s not easy to go through something like that at any age, i can see it’s not easy for the mother at all but SHE admitted that when it all happened she started to become very angry with everyone; how do you expect her daughter not to display the same behaviors? the daughter didn’t have a safe space to process. clearly her mother didn’t have a space to process either, but at your early teens you don’t exactly know or can reach out for help, so her mother should’ve been the first to do so as soon as possible. please re-evaluate.

I went through a hard time when I was 14, I’m 17 now of this year. I know exactly what this girl is experiencing. I fought, I got suspended, I got in trouble all the time, I cursed at my parents, I got into fights (even physically) with my parents, etc. Unfortunately, this girl has some trauma and when you’re already messed up as a child you mingle with the worst of the worst, especially in school. Whatever “friends” she’s fighting at school, she thinks she needs to be strong and stand tall to feel power because she has no control in her home life because she needs to be older in some forms of fashion. She takes that anger and that “strong” behavior back to her mother which is extremely disrespectful. I understand her mother has some shitty behavior and traits but come on, as a child you really do have a place as a child. There’s no reason she should be assaulting her mother and not doing the chores she gets payed for WAY MORE than I do in a month! This little girl carries a smug look on her face apologizing to her mother and it’s disgusting, she grew up too fast and she’s already pushed into this frame of behavior, at this point she’s just confused. I hope this mother and daughter truly make a comeback from this.
