My bestfriend/girlfriend died this past september. And i sang this beautiful song at her burial. I finished the entire song withoit crying but after that i burst in tears while her mother hugs me while silently crying. I LOVE HER SO MUCH 😊❤

I sang this song as a lullaby to my eldest, when he was sick as a baby. He'd fall asleep before the song ended. That was 18 years ago.

Having grown up with an abusive father who was always cruel, emotionally and psychologically abusive to my mum - a person who was always kind, loving, forgiving caring and compassionate to all life and then losing her when I was 23? Songs like this hit me hard... I remember even on her death bed she was pretending she was going to be okay because she didn't want to break our hearts.. Even on her death bed she was putting others before herself... Songs like this can be a literal emotional pain for me to sing.. I've been a singer, pianist and musician for 27 years now but songs like this can really break both my heart and my voice because it's so hard to fight through the pain...

I saw a video before of what is the story behind the song. It's so sad I can never sing this without crying. Basically He was not ready to become a father so he rejected his son at first. When he finally felt ready to be a father and just started to reconnected to his son, the little kid fell from apartment building and died. His son was so happy that he made connection to his father, but sadly deceased shortly after. That's why at some point Eric refused to play this song because it still breaks his heart.

Thank you for this. Eric Clapton ...I can't even put into words how his music and music in general had helped me in my darkest times. It's really my therapy. This song is filled with so much emotion and the way you played, it completely captured the pain, sorrow and yet beautiful aspect. As a kid when I heard this song, we actually practiced it in my middle school choir. But my music teacher told us the meaning behind this song. And that will always stick with me till the end of my days. It's so powerful and beautiful even though it's filled with pain and grief over his son. A real tear jerker, Amazing job!! 👍🏼❤️❤️
