Bellator and PFL, now PflAtor, was in competition with the UFC. Most UFC fans considered those a B promotion and didn't bother tuning in. Karate Combat is not competing with the UFC and has an appealing structure and promotion. UFC fans will tune in. You just got to keep getting the word out.

why are two guys in their 40's who never fought in karate headlining a karate event? aren't there young fighters that are really good who should be headlining?

Because they will sell. No offence it looks cool and all, but I don't know any of them karate fighters (yet). It's still very new, so older big name mma fighters and even bigger name grapplers will still be more well known.
