Love that he shows the "beginner" breakdown (they grab both wrists), but then flows into more practical application. So many people are taught bunkai as "They grab your wrist, you pull and strike", then discard it because it seems impractical. Great bunkai, more vids like this!

Arigatou gozaimasu. Finally a Sensei addressing the techniques to a big person. That is fundamental as most new generations now are bigger and the kids of these other bigger persons are even bigger! I am small and have problems with that due to most are taller. I practice shotokan that is better to be tall due than short.

The answer to fighting taller people is to practice with taller people and find what works for you. Decades ago, as an un-ranked White Belt, we were doing Ippon Kumite and had a large group of beginners. I heard a guy yelling and cursing in Hawaiian. The beginner instructor, also Hawaiian, ran over and restrained the guy yelling. I thought, “Hmm, I’ve got to spar with that guy.” The yeller was about 6’6” and I am 5’10”. At the next class, I lined up so I would eventually spar with the guy. When it was my time to attack I drilled the guy Chudan as hard as I could. He immediately started to get angry and yell so I just slid in close and grabbed him in a bear hug and told him, “Just calm down! I hit you fair and square.” After that, he and I became good friends and I had the confidence to spar bigger opponents.

As a Kyokushin blackbelt I'm currently also studying GoJu. I very much like the more practical side of Goju, it somehow feels less "watered down" when it comes to Bunkai. I still have a lot to learn but what a great addition it is for me as a lover of these martial arts. Thanks for a great video!
