Sato was more about honor. He just couldn't let go of his anger. In Sato's eyes Miyagi ran instead of handling things in an honorable fashion. That was the way things back than were handled. He and Miyagi weren't just best friends they were brothers. Miyagi stole his betrothed behind his back. After leaving Miyagi married another woman. They also reflected bad in Sato's eyes. Chozen was just a bully trying to mimic his uncle but had no idea what true honor was about.

Elisabeth Shue was so upset that her character was written out with that story line that she carried it round for years. Eventually, she ran into Macchio at a baseball game and wanted an answer from him as to WHY they wrote that Allie has fallen in love with some random guy. LOL!!!!!! They remedied that grave mistake on 'Cobra Kai'
@Logan_Baron
@Logan_Baron Жыл бұрын
Sadly that was the way movies of the time were. A new love interest in every sequel. It's always a 'falling in love story'. Even at the time though I hated the way that they even had to demonize Allie. I was so happy the way they remedied it in Cobra Kai. Rocky though proved that you can have a one woman love story through every movie, and make it just as wonderful many times even after passing the 'falling in love' phase.

I'll admit, when I joined the USN as a 19 year-old kid in 2003, I chose to go to Okinawa partly because of this film. I later learned that the movie was not filmed in Okinawa, but in Hawaii. In the end, I ended up being there for two years and it was probably my favorite of all of the places I've traveled. I even met my spouse there, and we've been married for 15 years. I miss it all the time and wish I could go back, it's beautiful and the Okinawan people are very hospitable.

Part 2 is very special, it was a big thing when filming here in Hawaii, you can tell exactly where they were from the background scenery, mostly on location in Kaneohe. A big Hollywood movie being filmed in your back yard! Lots of local actors as extras and even in the supporting cast. Tamlyn Tomita and Traci Toguchi got their big break (Kumiko and bell ringer). If you drive to that side (Windward side of O'ahu) you will recognize it immediately. Danny Kamekona (actually Hawaiian, not Okinawan) did a great job as Sato.

Mary, I lost people in my life too and it takes it toll. I remind myself not to dwell on it though and find happiness. While it's not easy and I don't exactly succeed in moving on, the time and distance does help to somewhat compartmentalize things and not be overwhelmed by them.

Hey, Mary! Just watched this and your Karate Kid III reaction in the span of a few days. Glad you liked Part II as it definitely had its good moments, like Daniel helping Miyagi through his grief and what was probably the most brutal, realistic fight of the franchise between Daniel and Chozen. Here some more trivia: - Ralph Macchio (who plays Daniel) took dancing classes from the age of three, so it should come as no surprise that it was actually him who helped Tamlyn Tomita (Kumiko) through the dance scene at the party, not the other way around as it was for their characters. In fact, Macchio competed on the U.S. version of Dancing With the Stars a few years before the show Cobra Kai was a concept and finished in fourth place.

I was definitely more fortunate, in that I grew up with relatives always nearby. This helped us to keep in touch, and we were able to console each other when someone passes away. I was lucky to have known all my grandparents until well into adulthood, with the exception of my dad's father, who died while I was still in school. It was really touching to see how you were affected by Daniel and Myagi's discussion following th passing of Myagi's father.

The growth between Larusso & Miyagi certainly becomes more than student & master. The 'father without a son/son without a father' dynamic really took hold with me and my father too. The "no bad student, only bad teacher" aspect again settles in. Sato & Chozen's relationship is so well written that you discover how powerful influence can be (right or wrong). The fights are fairly played with the villainy stirring up the trouble and Daniel or Miyagi having to push back. Tournaments and real life are very different in handling conflict. Peter Cetera's song, "Glory of Love" is a true soundtrack gem. There was toys and an video game (PC, 8-bit NES) in 1987, based on scenes from Part 1 and Part 2. Also an Saturday morning, animated series in 1989 (13 episodes) premiering months after Part 3. In my childhood, very wonderful progression of a franchise.

there's a fan theory about the plothole of how how yuki knew miyagi's address for decades... the theory: miyagi's wife was also from okinawa and knew yuki in some way [childhood friend or possibly related to a mutual friend]. she was the one that had sent word to the village about miyagi, years before being interred during ww2. also, in the first movie, miyagi told daniel he'd lived in the same house since returning from the war. that's because he'd built the house for his wife and their eventual family. and as we saw, miyagi's home is very okinawan in design.

@@redrick8900 Exactly. We are to believe that Mr. Miyagi NEVER wrote a single letter to his father in 40 years? I bet he and his father wrote to each other fairly often. Yuki could have probably found his California address out this way.
@frmthefuture
@frmthefuture Жыл бұрын
@@adamcollazo8228 no. once miyagi left the village in disgrace, it's assumed he had zero contact with the village- due to his loss of honor. it would've been considerably dishonorable keep in contact [on both sides] after what happened. the only way anyone from the village would've known where miyagi was, would've been because someone close to him told- especially without his knowledge. the only other person alive would've been his wife. it also explains why miyagi was so surprised/shocked when yuki told him she'd known where he had been living, "for many years." additionally that she'd chosen not to contact him, until then, out of respect for his choice to leave in "disgrace," rather than fight his best friend over her.

@@frmthefuture I'm not taking bout contact with the entire village. I mean contact with his father. That's a different matter. The films do not address this so we have no information about this. It's all conjecture. So we can't really assume anything.

And then Con Air with Nick Cage. Actually Miyagi did marry and was going to have a kid, but they died.

I agree, l like this story better than the first as well. Pat had a real rough childhood. He had an illness as a 2 year old and stayed in the Hospital until he was 11 years old. The doctors said he would never walk again!! Later he had to spend time in a Japanese interment camp during WWII. Another movie that Pat was in that is worth reacting to is called “Captive Hearts”.

When my Grandpa died, I felt the same. He died of lung cancer that metastasized to his lymph nodes. When we found out, we had 2 weeks before he ended up in the hospital. He never left. He knew for years that he was dieing, and didn't tell us because he did want us to treat him any different. I strive to be half the man he was.

YES!!!!!!!!! I AM SO HAPPY YOU ARE WATCHING THIS! I've been a student of the martial arts for over 30 years now (because of this movie actually). Occasionally, people will ask me my opinion for the most realistic fight scene in a movie and I always say this one. That end fight looks exactly like a real fight between two high level martial artists. It's sloppy and unpredictable, but the techniques are there. Final "move" is admittedly a plot device, but still amazing. I absolutely love this film, even more than the first one.

I liked the second movie the most for the same reasons. I had my father pass away on me as well and I was the one who had to turn off the machine that kept him alive and I held him as he died but as hard as that was the thoughts and memories of all the times I let slip by that I could have spent with him.... it took 4 years before I felt anything other than sorrow and its not completely gone now just a little easier to deal with. I'm sorry for your loss as well but what a gift is this thing called love that makes us so willing to face such pain for just the chance of being touched by the Joy of life's greatest reward. Love you Mary keep up the great work 😘

You said that Mr. Miyagi never married, but he did. We learned in the first film that while he was in the army he had a wife, and a son on the way, but she died in childbirth. Yukie never married because she did not love Sato, and respected Nariyoshi ("Mr. Miyagi" to us). But Nariyoshi (Mr.M) chose to leave so as not to fight his best friend to the death. He landed in America, and made his life there. Joined the army. Found love, married, but lost wife and son. But still always carried that flame for the girl he left behind in Okinawa.
