@@frank6401 as a sport it is not deadly be cause you must fight with in the rules when you are in cage. The referee will stop the fight before your opponent die when you rear naked choke your opponent. The referee will stop you before you break your opponents joints and bones. The ref will warn you every time to poke the eye, strike the groin, strike the throat, strike the back of the head, neck and spine. But in the street an mma fighter can use all the martial art he learned and use it to depend himself and kill if he want.

@@brucele2776 why do you think only mma is deadly in street fight? Based on you resumption watching too much mma? MMA is new it s just mixed of here and there like salad. I can agree with that. I competed pretty regularly and I remember in the mid 90s karate was something to marvel at. Most youths were on my level (I boxed and did Chinese Boxing) when it came to skill and prowess. I was at a tournament in '02 and just thought to myself: what the hell happened?! Black belt used to mean something. Now, a "dojo" could sell a 4 year program and say "ok you're a black belt." I used to spar with this kid, his instructor stopped caring about giving belts out when they were all on that cusp of black. He would say to them, "if you want one so bad go buy it." He was old school like my shifu, I respected this kid and his sensei. To them it wasn't about a belt or a title, it was about teaching something that could save your life or make you a better person. Thanks to social media, I have reconnected with him. These lessons we were taught, they've stuck with us our whole lives. Please excuse my paragraph hahaha

One thing I’ve noticed with knockdown style fighting..these days fighters seem to stand in the pocket, punching and kicking the crap out of each other until someone falls. 20-30 years ago the fighters seem to have more space between each other, there was more footwork, more tactical fights, not to mention being more spectator friendly to watch. I’m asking myself the question, would Andy Hug or Glaube Feitosa have been able to use their signature kicks so liberally today if they didn’t have the space whilst fighting toe to toe. It’s questionable..

You do still see some amazing kickers in the MMA, but the MMA rules allow for submission techniques at close range - these options discourage ranged kicking. If the rules are setup for kickboxing, then yes Hug, Van Damme or Chuck Norris would still do very well.
