2:59:17 that eyepoke was very dirty & you can tell his nails were sharp. Karate Combat needs to check if they have their nails trimmed or trim them themselves both hands and feet by the way. They do this at the UFC.

Eyepokes should have severe penalties, but the rule makers do not seem to care...its sad, and UFC is a complete joke, the best do not fight the best, they choose fights focusing on the fighter popularity instead of skills, they only care about money.

Yes, finger nails check is of paramount importance for athletes' safety (maybe it was not the case this time, I haven't seen his nails; but still the nail check is a must). @ 2:58:45 you can see Gabriel's left eye poked (easier to see in slow motion) and that's basically right before he calls for a stop. The organization's replay shows another exchange (with the suspected right eye poke) which happened just before the real eye poke exchange. It's a pity the one commentator, just because he watched the wrong replay, jumped to the wrong conclusion saying Gabriel was looking for a strategy exit.

@albertmacleod8969
@albertmacleod8969 26 күн бұрын
When the medical Dr stopped the Madera-Varga fight due to potential harm to Varga’s eye(s) Maljak’s comments didn’t demonstrate concern for fighter safety, or any real knowledge with martial arts/combat sports. Sure, we all want to see more than 2 min for a co-main event fight, but as GSP said “safety first”. GSP is obviously a tough guy, but showed respect, experience and empathy. Damage to eyesight or brain from a concussion is serious stuff. The Dr made the right call to stop the fight and protect Varga from potentially more serious harm.

The eye poke was EXECUTED @ 2:58:45, and the replay 2:59:17 shows a DIFFERENT instance of eyepoke, but it's still the same hand, an open palm eye "jab" aimed at the left eye. After that, he went for the right eye. That's why they are discussing this at 3:03:30. But i think George knows a bit about Gabriel's discipline. So he is conflicted at the idea of Gabriel faking an eye injury. The left commentator though-not planning to know his name- insisted on that doubt. Maybe he's surrounded by dirty fighters so that's his first guess. And simply ignored how blatant that eye poke was, as seen on the replay. 3:04:18 talk about jumping into conclusions.. of course he has to share his shitty thoughts to George which is a very level headed champ.
@PeanutButterCoffeeBread
@PeanutButterCoffeeBread 25 күн бұрын
At 2:58:45 (play @0.25 speed) you'll see his fingers reaching for the eye. It landed on the right eye. The combo was eye poke, right hook that landed on Gabriel's head, left hook to the CHEST, and LONG right hook to the FOREHEAD, and an INSTANT break.. no counters from Gabriel. On the replay that they showed at 2:59:17, The combo was left eye poke that did land, left hook to the ELBOW of Gabriel, left hook to the HEAD, and SHORT right hook to the CHIN. There was NO break right after, and Gabriel got maybe 2 counter punches back.

Nonsense, that is the last thing I would call a "blatant" eyepoke. Maybe you should put a little more effort into thoroughly discerning what you're looking at. What Madera is doing is an attempt to strip Varga's guard - a very standard technique - and follow up with a straight, but at that same moment, Varga does a dip and a level change. This leads to Madera missing Varga's arm and his own arm grazes past Varga's face as his head moves. Most probably it was the thumb seam of the glove or the glove wrap that slashed the eye. That shit happens all the time, completely unintentional and impossible to anticipate. There's nothing Madera or Varga could have done to prevent it.

@@jacopodainotto4084What would you describe these guys as compared to ‘actual karateka’
@jacopodainotto4084
@jacopodainotto4084 25 күн бұрын
@@jocoolshow A karateka is essentially a swordsman that uses his body instead of a blade. As such, its ability to cause damage is equal to its awareness of the opponent's. Or, to put it in other words, 'to hit and not get hit,' which is the exact same in western boxing. This is why timing, simplicity, and distance control are key aspects in both arts. I can mention a few names who have competed in karate combat, and excel at this way of fighting: Chinzo Machida, Jesus Lopez, Rafael Aghayev, Ross Levine, Bruno Souza, Andres Madera, Luiz Rocha, Kalvis Kalnins, Shahin Atamov, Alberto Ramirez, and Vitalie Certan. This might seem like a long list, but it's really not when you compare it to the actual roster, and it's honestly a pity that some of these names are not active. It is worth saying that there's obviously other disciplines that fall under the "karate" spectrum, such as kiyokushinkai, kudo, kickboxing (which, by the way, has so much to do with karate. Most people just assume it's another martial art, instead of a different sport, which would be accurate), and so on. However, I feel like I haven't seen good representative of these styles in the pit yet. Apparently, it's more common to see grapplers, untrained middle aged men (for some reason), muay thai fighters, or even over the hill unskilled mma fighters, with so few exceptions, like Rockhold, Pettis, and Hendo. This event really speaks for itself...

Putting the submissions and IFC into their own chunks of the event is very smart, because viewers who don't want to watch those parts (or only want those parts) can very easily find them. Robin Black seems really done with the clown show, though, going from "That's the true spirit of martial arts" with Levine's retirement speech (still mad respect for the way he handled me as a hater in the Discord) to "I could whip it out right now and it wouldn't matter." Gotta say, I'm a little concerned.

I like how the guy who I honestly don't know who he is? Is the one to question a mentality of a fighter? I've been watching KC from the start but I honestly don't know who that mike guy is? They say "KZfaqr"....they need to have the next fan vote be voting to cut this mike guy from the commentary! I think that's a unanimous vote to cut! 😂

Awesome event. Good grappling matches and a lot of explosive KOs in the striking bouts. Great survivial skills by AJ Azagarm. Chelmiah is on fire. Perez is a funny man! Jenkins got lucky. Something about the Madera/Varga bout is kinda fishy man. Madera was tuning him up in the opening minute, Varga even looked like he was out for a moment on the ground. The stoppage was confusing to me - the replay showed his right eye getting poked, but when he motioned to the judge, he was actually holding his left eye, which was also the one that was examined by the doc. Quite honestly I think his left eye was busted from a punch and he was leaking from the nose like a faucet, the poke hat nothing to do with that.

I agree Varga did look in trouble and he kind of seemed off in this fight. They just showed the wrong replay, if you slow it down you can see the eye poke to his left eye right before the stoppage. I think Varga would have lost if the eye poke didn't happen possibly by stoppage (he seemed rocked after the ground and pound).

@@Boomstck So basically you think he got poked in both eyes? I watched it again today. When Gabriel stops and motions to the ref, he's holding his left eye. And that's the one that's patched up in his post-fight video he uploaded today. But the replay they showed actually isn't from that exchange. What we see in the replay did not cause that injury, because the replay shows a poke to his RIGHT eye. That's an exchange that happened seconds earlier, where Gabe tried to close the distance with a jumping knee. So the replay and the actual situation where the fight was interrupted don't have anything to do with each other. They replayed the wrong thing. However, it seems that if he WAS poked to the left eye as well, there's no camera angle of it. I rewatched the exact exchange at 0.25 speed where Gabe stops, and he did get hit by a shot on the left side of his face, but I'm only seeing a punch, with a clearly 100% closed fist. I'm not able to see a poke there. It's hard to tell what really happened. Gabriel also never mentions two eyepokes in his recap. I don't know who gave him the 2nd mystery phantom eyepoke, but as of now I'm doubting that it was Andrés Madera ... 😂

@@honigdachs. @ 2:58:45 you can see Gabriel's left eye poked with an open hand by Madera (easier to see in slow motion) and that's basically right before he calls for a stop. The organization's replay shows another exchange (with the suspected right eye poke) which happened just before the real eye poke exchange. It's a pity the one commentator, just because he watched the wrong replay, jumped to the wrong conclusion saying Gabriel was looking for a strategy exit.

@@rick3489 That could indeed be where it happened, yeah. Madera attempts to parry Varga's guard away with his left arm, while Gabriel changes level at the same moment. That leads to Madera missing Gabriel's arm and his own hand grazes past the face, that's quite possibly where it makes contact with the eye.
