@@alvinmiller6675 No he didn't lol. You would like it he did that. But what's been removed from these talks of longevity always matters how long can you sustain greatness and play at a high level. And even people hate LeBron for various reasons like, he's out spoken, he's the most talked about player probably ever, people want him to retire, but he seems to not be slowing down, people hating the records that he's breaking because their favorite player once owned them whatever the case. Bron is one of one, he's one of those rare athletes and he probably won't start really slowing down till about 43-45. It's some guys that's just that gifted. He will be at the top of all most everything considered with basketball in the history of a professional league. That's points, rebounds, assist, steals and blocks. I mean he's already l the only player EVER to be top 10 in the 5 mayor statical categories in playoffs and he's not the only great that's played 19 years. He leads all time in two categories (points and steals) and is second in all time in playoffs assist and he will add to all that before he's done. The points that he's responsible for from scoring and assisting it's easy to say no one in the history of the league is remotely close. And that's just the short of many things.

FYI = Kareem did win the FMVP in 1980 AFTER Magic's great game 6 but because Kareem was not present, CBS did not want to present the award to an empty chair, so the voters were asked to change their votes so Magic would win the award. This is all covered in the book titled "Kareem" pages 140-141. Kareem really does have a legit case for the #1 place. Thank you for the work you have put into this series. My dad was Mr. Basketball, George Mikan's "#1 Fan". Then, multiple times, I got to see Wilt LIVE with the Harlem Globetrotters. I "followed" Wilt into the NBA, for the (1959-)1960 season and have been a "rabid" NBA/ABA/NBL fan for SIXTY THREE YEARS. I've been making NBA/ABA/NBL GOAT lists FOR DECADES (mostly based on the ALL-LEAGUE yearly selections. "TOUGHER ERAS"VS MAJOR EXPANSION: Over recent years we see this type of comment, " THE CAPTAIN KAREEM ABDUL JABBAR and then Micheal Jordan and it was during tougher eras than LeBron eras and yes that does matter a lot !" BUT, during KAJ's career, 7 years of the ABA (during the last 6 of which, the ABA's level was ON PAR with that of the NBA; and during the last 3 years of which, a legit argument could be made that the ABA was (slightly) better. This is PROVEN by the fact that former ABA teams played better than 50% ball (despite the ABA getting raped during the "Merger"); AND former-ABA players filled the post-merger ALL-NBA 1st-Teams and 2nd-Teams. Then during MJ's career, the NBA ADDED SIX TEAMS IN JUST 8 YEARS! Tremendously watering down the average level of play/player/team; INEVITABLY leading to the best teams having incredible Won-Loss records (which makes MJ's team, the Bulls, AND their top opposition SEEM to be historically great teams). Since 1996, the NBA has added ONE TEAM (in 26 YEARS!; including during LBJ's (so far) 20-year career) AND training and coaching methods have continued to improve AND INTERNATIONAL PLAY has exploded - the League has NEVER been more loaded with talent. N.B. It's no coincidence that, prior to recent years, the NBA top records for most-wins-in-a-season happened in EXPANSION YEARS: 1969, 1972, 1996 etc.

@@tyjohnson3111 Their games could NOT have been that different - the two leagues played each other in many, many exhibition games (iirc, over a hundred games). EARLY ON, the NBA won most of them; but the ABA caught up and won so many games that overall they overcame that early deficit and ended up winning the majority of the games. There WERE some significant differences (only the ABA had the 3-ball then) and the ABA was called a "Forwards' League" - especially because of Dr J, Rick Barry and a number of other greats at that position. They DID play a little more open, run-and-gun style. Personally, I liked that style better, btw.

@@terricarter9435 We all knew Nick was gonna have Bron #1. But honestly, every argument for Lebron at #1, Kareem has a better case unless you just prefer one play style over the other. I, for one, can't see any legit argument for the best player in NBA history having a losing finals record when no one else in the conversation has a losing finals record. It means from the jump you have to make excuses for him. He didn't dominate his era (based on wins), his stats aren't so far above his competition to give him an edge (like Wilt), he doesn't have the most accolades in NBA history by a long shot, he didn't have the highest peak, and his longevity stats are all trumped by Kareem. Nick should start his #1 ranking by just saying he loves Lebron and that's why he has him #1.

Just to give the full context on Kareem missing the playoffs. 1974-75: Kareem missed the first 16 games and the Bucks went 3-13. He came back and they went 35-30. 1975-76: The Lakers that season actually had the 4th best record in the conference but missed the playoffs due to an outdated and illogical format.

In the 1975 season (38-44), the Bucks were 9th in offense, 8th in defense, 8th in net rating, 13th in points scored per game & 5th in points allowed per game. Kareem only played the last 65 of 82 games where they were 35-30 with him & 3-14 without him in the first 17 games of the season. They finished 4th in the Midwest Division & tied for 6th in the conference. It should be noted that the DET Pistons in their division @40-42 & NYK in the Atlantic Division in the East @40-42 both made the playoffs as the final seed (5th). Kareem averaged 30/14/4/1/3 in 42 MPG on 51% FG (13/24 per game) & 76% FT (5/7 per game) coming in 5th in MVP Kareem was 3rd in PPG, 5th in RPG, 1st in BPG, T-18th in APG, T-16th in SPG, 3rd in BLK%, 9th in TREB%, 4th in DREB%, 4th in EFG%, T-11th in TS%, 2nd in MPG, 2nd in WS (6th in OWS-8th in DWS), & T-5th in Defensive Rating that season. 🤷🏾‍♂️ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In the 1976 season (40-42), the Lakers were 7th of 18 in offense & 13th of 18 in defense; scoring the 3rd most PPG while giving up the 17th most. However, this team had a better record than 2 West teams in the Midwest Division-38-44 Bucks & 36-46 Pistons who made the playoffs as they were the top 2 in that division. The Suns in comparison were 42-40; 3rd in the Pacific Division and the 3rd seed in the West. Kareem also averaged 28/17/5/2/4 in 41 MPG on 53% FG (11/21 per game) & 70% FT (6/8 per game) with no All Star help that season 🤫 Taking home the MVP that year Kareem was ranked 2nd in PPG, *1st in RPG* , 11th in APG, T-11th in SPG, *1st in BPG* , 2nd in BLK%, 3rd in TREB%, 2nd in DREB%, 5th in EFG%, 8th in TS%, *1st in MPG* , *1st in OWS & DWS* , & T-2nd in Defensive Rating. ******************************** Firstly there was 18 teams-not 16 which is the reason why the 1st seeds in each conference had a bye to the ECSF & WCSF respectively to face the winner of the 4/5 matchup. 5 teams each make the playoffs in each conference-so 10/18 teams make the playoffs. 10 of 18 teams in 1976 were under .500, ranging from 40-42 LA Lakers & *Eastern Conference* HOU Rockets to Western Conference Chicago Bulls @ 24-58. At the time both conferences were separated by 2 divisions. In the West, all the 4 Midwest Division teams had a worst record than the Lakers. The Lakers *(4th in Pacific, 4th in West)* had a better record than 2 West teams in the Midwest Division- 38-44 Bucks *(1st in Midwest, 5th in West)* & 36-46 Pistons *(2nd in Midwest, 7th in West)* who made the playoffs as they were the top 2 in that division--but were the 4th & 5th seeds in the West First Round Playoff facing against each other 🤔 The Suns in comparison were 42-40 *(3rd in Pacific, 3rd in West)* Prior to 2005, NBA division champions were seeded higher than the other teams in their conference, regardless of their record. Prior to 2004, when the NBA was aligned into two conferences with two divisions each, the division champions were guaranteed the top two seeds. This meant that top two teams in a conference (by record) would be seeded either first and second (if they were in opposite divisions) or first and third (if they were in the same division). Because of the NBA playoffs' preset matchups in the second round, this meant that the top two teams in a conference could never meet until the conference finals, assuming they both made it to that round. ******************************** First off the NBA went to 4 divisions across 2 conferences for the first time in 1971 with an increased number of teams. In 1970, there was 14 teams separated by 2 conferences *(East & West)* In 1971, there was 17 teams separated by 4 divisions into 2 conferences *(East: Atlantic & Central, West: Midwest & Pacific)* Eight teams still qualified, four from each conference. Hence, the division semifinals and division finals came to be known as conference semifinals and conference finals, respectively. The top two teams in each division qualified as the Eastern Conference, comprising the Atlantic and Central divisions, while the Western Conference consisted of the Midwest and Pacific divisions. The first place team from one division would face the second place team of the other division within their conference. In the conference playoffs, a division winner always held home-court advantage over a second place team regardless of record. *71’ BOS (44-38): 3rd in Atlantic; 3rd in EAST* *71’ PHO (48-34): 3rd in Midwest; T-3rd in WEST* *71’ DET (45-37): 4th in Midwest; 4th in WEST* All due to an outdated rule missing out on playoff basketball. Instead in the East, You had a *42-40 Bullets team (1971 Eastern Conference Champs; 1st in Central & 4th in East)* make it *(Central Div. Weakest That Season)* alongside a *36-46 Hawks team (2nd in Central, 5th in East)* ____________________ In the West, you had a *48-34 Lakers team (1st in Pacific, T-3rd in West)* and a *41-41 Warriors team (2nd in Pacific, 6th in West)* *The only two years where this “problem occurs” since the expanding into 4 divisions separated by 2 conferences is 1971 & 1976-the year before the merger that added a 6th seed 🤔*

Well. Let's put it like this bc people tend to look at Kareem but don't fully grasp how old he was.. Nick used a lot of Kareem's college numbers. Now.. What would Jordan (and any other top 10 player) college numbers look like if they had played in college from 1966-1969??.. Think Jordan or any of the others would've won a few rings throughout the 70s??... Kareem was great. For sure. But the stats do not tell the whole story. Kareem was in the same position as Wilt and Bill.. His younger years were def in an different era..and any top 20 player would've dominated had they played in the same era as well. Most....MOST... GMs are drafting Jordan before they draft Kareem.. And that's the way I look at "GOAT Lists" bc it's all subjective.. But. Who would get drafted first most often?.. This "debate" will never go away.

I can make an argument against lebron. You need stats and rings to be towards the top of these lists and lebron would have one maybe two if he didn’t team hop and ring chase. Kareem had magic but he joined before they even drafted him so he wouldn’t know. Jordan had pippen but again, Jordan was there first and they drafted pippen. I don’t reward ring chasers who join teams force them to spend every drop of capital they have to trade for all Star buddies then leave once they’re dried up or his hall of fame teammates show any sign of decline in their game.

He was leader on all 3 of those teams never played robin 4. Most stars ring chase but y’all don’t count the unsuccessful attempts 5. Nothing you said had to do with actual game …players can put themselves i positions to win if the franchise won’t All of that is excuses because we see teams before Lebron and after levron come together to win and it doesn’t happen Y’all will say Lebron had superteams then say 2012 heat can’t beat 96 bulls Then I say well if that’s the case that would make the bulls a superteam then y’all screaming no lol this my only response

All he’s done is promote Kareem over lebron for 2nd all time. Jordan is a hall of fame career above Kareem and Kareem is way above lebron. It’s not Jordan’s fault he played to max out. He should be applauded for accomplishing that much in 13 full seasons. (Really, 11).

The block situation is pretty easy: top rebounder of the 60s/early 70s averaged 7-8bpg. Philly tracked (unofficially, but it's the same guy who then lead the NBA official stat team for years, so it's reliable) Wilt's number from 65 to 68, and he averaged 9.2bpg. We have data from a few of Russell's (RIP legend) best game, and he averaged 8+bpg in those games. And mind that for both guys, grabbing a shot mid air and coming down with the ball was considered a steal, not a block in 60s. So I think it's fair to say that probably Kareem had something between 5 and 8 bpg in those years, and so he should be rightfully third all time, behind Wilt and Bill. It's not official, it's a rough estimation, but I think it's a fair one.

Why is it never taken into consideration that for most of Kareem's career, half of the best players in the world were in the ABA. That's gotta be taken into account in my opinion.

This would be a wild concept...have people like Nick, Broussard, Stephen A, & Skip sit in a film session with someone like JJ Reddick, Richard Jefferson, and/or Grant Hill and have them (the "analysts") tell the former players what they see on the tape. Then let the players explain what is actually happening on the play and why things are important. Would be very insightful.

So the second greatest player has more rings and mvps than the "#1 player Lebron", and less finals mvp, less scoring titles, less all defensive teams than the "3rd best ever", Jordan. In fact, both #1 and #2 on the list accomplished less than #3 while playing much longer. What a joke of a list. 🤣
