This is not necessarily true. Bears have been found killed by wolverines (two holes thru skull) as well as wolverines killed by bears. The wolverine is fearless and will drive a bear off a kill. Also, the wolverine here did not back off, in fact the bear backed off. He knows how crazy the mustelid family, especially wolverines are. A cougar or pack of wolves would prove a problem for them. I refer you to The Wolverine Way by Doug Chadwick to get a handle on wolverine behavior.

I just started reading an article about it and there's this information that this land had always been fought about between Russia, Norway, and Finland, but Russia made it their land in the 13th century or so.
