I had an older white woman accuse me of stealing a hockey jersey as a 16 yr old. She told me that her husband was going to come and handle it. THIS was terrifying. She found the jersey then proceeded to laugh about the incident, as if I wasn't just threatened. This was in like 2002. That's what I think of when I think of "Karen." Ziwe is killing this. I feel like the only situation where using the term "Karen" isn't justified is when the one calling you that belongs to the only category of people wielding more power than white women, i.e. white men of their same class or higher. Calling a white woman Karen is not sexist because it is usually done in a context where the woman wields enough power by other means (chiefly race and class) that her gender disadvantage does not play a part in the dynamic. But a LOT of white dudes have appropriated the term and have started to use it against women who call them out on their bullshit, mainly against feminists ofc. That doesn't make sense, they know it, but they do it anyway. As they do.
