One of the former Loveland police officers involved in the arrest of Karen Garner last June now faces felony charges, including assault resulting in serious injuries.
District Attorney Gordon McLaughlin announced charges Wednesday afternoon for Austin Hopp and Daria Jalali, both of whom were directly involved in the June 26, 2020 arrest of Garner, a 73-year-old woman with dementia. Arrest warrants have been issued for both of them.

@Jack wolfman what you mean dramaQueen? you mean those cop were hired from street? those people had no experience at all and no training in whatsoever? I think they were hired because the wage wasn't big enough, it cheaper that way, right. The city hall can't afford to pay the victim anything. so you boys have fun with victim, huh. They are definitely ignore the citizen regardless their age and any disability. Think about where these come from, yeah. I notice one female officer was muslin background and where she come with nothing background . She simple join as police officer heh, she not very compassion person at all. That problem, thy grew up in area of foreign country snd move to America with zero of experience and no knowledge of being police officer. yeah it is easy for city hall pick these people and it cheaper, but they have no knowledge of her background. Why you do your homework about her first. Then you know enough about her background. it plain sight she not from born in America and went to school in America, I have no knowledge of her background, sorry if I say but it seems obvious something about her parents upbringing her in America with her culture, did she go to church or moslem church there is difference belief. yeah I know it nothing to do with religious. it just the way the background show. I do know muslin woman wear cover their head, but she may not muslin or she maybe not from America. So it seems to me she doesn't show caring person at all. How many interview that chief find suitable candidate before hired these goon. I believe the boss is not responsible for these people, because he knows these people pretty well. The way he act and it look like easy to find them in the neighbour. They grew up in that town, of course the words pass around and next things they go to the bar even the boss don't go to the bar, because everybody knows everybody. Nothing to worry about, right. It not easy to find suitable person, what would you do in finding the person, what do you see that person in 10 years goal. That how I look at the record of clean background with no crime no school trouble just like ordinary but one thing their attitude do change in the bar and sometime Chief doesn't know his behaviour in the bar. The character of this person doesn't show any wrong thing, until one day they did something so stupid and thing they do was wrong, how many this cop meet the folks in the town, how many people are in that town. That a problem. no one knows the neighbour. there was one guy approached Hogg, he seems concern of elder woman and Hogg say it none of your business, sure enough that concern citizen saw whole thing he didn't like what he saw, he probably from another town, just passing thru.

The ‘wait for the pop’ while disgusting to witness their excitement watching the replay, BUT the bigger issue is: first when reviewing the cop knew when to watch for it. Proving he knew when it happened and did nothing to render aid. Then while the woman sits in detention, the cops watch the recording for laughs, still not getting the woman medical attention. So no excuses of ‘I didn’t know she was in pain/needed medical attention.’. Cop knew exactly when he broke the woman’s arm, then showed it off. The male cop had to be charged. The female cop assisted so should be charged. The 3rd cop watching the video should be charged, seeing the assault on video, offered no aid. All incident that have any use of force should mandate the victim must be transported to a hospital. Not the jail nurse, who is on the payroll and willing to lie and cover up.

In NYC in the 1960s, after a lot of horrible police actions AND honest police officers FINALLY standing up, a "Blue Ribbon" Commission was appointed. Their final report included a long addendum saying that they seriously considered recommending the whole police department be fired, from the Commissioner to secretaries, and calling in the National Guard to keep order until a new police department could be created. They decided not to ONLY because it would be unfair to the National Guard. Instead they recommended a long list of changes. Can you imagine how bad it must have been to consider firing EVERYONE!??!! If your imagination needs some help, look for the book "Serpico", later made into an excellent movie, about one of the honest cops who stood up ... and he's still in witness protection, by the way. I cared for my dad with EARLY DEMENTIA, my heart was broken several times a day trying to get through to him--- i can only imagine that Ms Garners loved ones are having such a difficult time trying to reassure her. I will pray for Ms Garner and her family in tje hope that her fear can be eased as time goes on. With that being said, i know thats a difficult task. I hope police forces across the world will be trained to look for signs of dementia and how to deal with the elderly and the frail. GODS BLESSINGS BE UPON MS GARNER AND HER FAMILY. 🙏🏻🌹💐🙏🏻

The other issue, even with out immunity, is that the offending officer will turn around and get hired by some other police agency a county over or at another state without any background checks. Because, unlike criminals, bad cop's records are not shared willingly with other precincts. And even if they are shared, some precincts don't care if they are hiring "criminals", cause once a cop always a cop? How is it that a students records can fallow a person all the way through collage graduation or what ever level of education they aspire to, but a cops misconducts disappears once they leave their current office, this is not a private job, this is a public work environment, not paid by private funds but taxes. And yet workers rights get thrown about when accusations of misconduct are brought up, then soon after the offending cops are hired elsewhere in same public service. And this is what is wrong with the judicial system, Prosecutors and judges will protect the police as long as "criminals" are brought in. And why George Floyd is just another notch on the legacy of the "crime" prosecuting regime, to the detriment of us all. This is not about race issues, this is about justice. We all as a nation seek justice from criminals, all criminals, and we aren't getting it while criminals can hide from justice by those providing us this supposed justice.

@@dorkusmingus The reason they get rehired, is something the union does. The union seems to have info way before the sheriff, or DA is about to present. The Union will inform the officer he is about to go down. So the officer does something, that protects him from department firing. He resigns, before a hearing is even setup. This only leaves him on the hook for any civil suit.. Mean while he can apply at another police station, as long as he has no verdict of a felony. This resign insures the issues can't be placed on his record, due to him no longer being employed. Civil suits don't effect job qualifications, unless your arrested and jailed under a felony. This is what needs to be changed first.. And then we attack policy next, because policy is not Law. " policy allows them to violate your rights, while they think it's ok"

@@lisamaitland157 Yes and no, take Arizona, it has a means via a state entity that all police in the state have to register to and get a license from to be police. The departments do not report said members that have conduct negatives in their records, whether they resign or get fired, and then are able to become officers elsewhere because they still hold a license as the agency does not have a clue about their misconducts. The AG's are also required to do so and won't because reporting said officers could jeopardize the cases they have. This is all ignored even though the Brady list system cannot be ignored, but it is. Brady is a Fed law, how many other states do you think ignore it and allow fired cops working elsewhere? Yes police Unions protect their own above the citizenry, and I agree this needs to be stopped, but how many times have you seen the Government go against a police union but turn around and send in the Pinkertons against another union strike? I believe that people entrusted with law enforcement duties should be required to have a 4 year college degree in law enforcement. The degree should focus on law, psychology, administration, investigation, ethics, etc. Then they would have to pass a law enforcement bar exam, pass a character and fitness investigation, and then be required to pay for their own malpractice insurance. This would go a long way to professionalizing law enforcement. The higher salaries paid would be more cost effective than having the taxpayers who employ them pay enormous legal fees and payouts as they do now. This way the taxpayers money would be going towards quality law enforcement, not lawyers and legal fees.

@@missannmcd You are exactly right. That's why Ihad said repeatedly that when people smugly threaten to sue, the cops couldn't care less. Nor do they care if they "lose" the suit. Yes, people typically cave in to a settlement and the cause of the whole thing is on the street, doing the same thing (or worse). They learn quick that there is no repercussions.

They exist in all forms of service jobs. From doctors to CNAs to teachers. Most of my high school bullies got nursing degrees or work with people with mental illnesses. It's a shame it's never discovered until something like this happens.

These type are the ones that nobody hangs out with, the weird ones alone in the corner. I highly doubt they played football, they don’t have the balls, and they get butt hurt easily, unless the team is full of 70+ years old. In short this means they’re pussies. LOCK EM UP FOR A LONG TIME!!!!!

You hit the nail on the head Sadistic low life people with a badge the whole lot of them from the town officials to the police chief and probably all the clerks who work for the city. someone had to type up reports and file them. if these people that work in that town knew what was going on and never said anything they need to go to all of them committed felonies by depriving this lady of her civil rights with intent and knowledge of the wrong doings .

You could not be more right. This is a total crock of shit. Every single police officer in this department who was involved and/or aware needs to be fired and jailed immediately. This is sick and disgusting behavior that obviously occurs on a regular basis. Several officers became aware. They said and did nothing, which tells me this is normal operating procedure for this department. This is shameful and unacceptable. This police department needs clean house starting with every single person with supervisory responsibility all the way to the top. Every single one of these turds needs to be flushed and never be allowed to work in law enforcement again. This is the kind of shit that fuels movements to defund the police. These cops are the lowest form of life on earth and should spend the rest of their life in prison

The lady Karen, reminded me of my mom. I would have killed anyone that hurt my mom. Anyone, cop or not. Those cops are lucky AF that wasn't my mom. I love the lady Karen. I could not have watched that happen and not freaked out on those cops. Thanks to the guy who did speak up. That took serious guts. Some cops should have never been given any kind of authority. They are not fit to be crossing guards. I feel so bad for the lady Karen. I wish her all the love and peace in the world. For the cops, I wish to see them in the lake of fire.

Someone should be charged with the torture of that poor woman. She was left handcuffed behind her back, and locked to a wooden bench for six hours. Even if she hadn't had her shoulder dislocated, she was locked to a hard bench unable to shift positions, she couldn't lean back, lay down, or even turn. She had to sit at attention, with her hands behind her back unable to move for six hours. The officer that left her sitting there, knew that he had popped her shoulder out. The other officers in the station knew as well, they all laughed about it. Have you ever driven for six hours straight? Now imaging driving sitting on a hard bench that didn't have a back. Someone should be punished.
