I know many people in charge at my workplace who are two faced and it does make it harder when you are abused by them because they can gaslight you to everyone else. I turned to Christ because of that or else my spirit would have darkened and become angry all the time. Don't let these charismatic people define who you are.

@@notsure64 Keep in mind Michael Landon always talked about the constant battle between staying true to the books on one hand, and then the network demanding more exciting TV. He always used the example...in the books there would be a whole chapter on Laura finds a grasshopper. You're being way too critical of one of the most beloved TV series of all time. I’m the same age as Melissa Gilbert, so of course I watched this show. Faithfully, every Monday at 8 on NBC. I kind of get what Michael Landon was saying. Karen Grassle was not the pull for the show. It was the kids and him. The women not so much. I called Bonnie Bartlett the Guppy. Especially in the Blizzard episode, she had that wide toothy guppy smile going on. And Hersha Parody. Whew. Frozen hard face: I never cared for her at all. As for Karen Grassle, she was okay. I get that Michael Landon said she was not the most popular. She was a disappointment for those of us kids who read the LH series. She wasn’t Ma, but she was okay. Part of why she wasn’t Ma was due the scripts she was given, and the scripts she was given she played well.

Those of us that love him know he was human, capable of faults and shortcomings just like the rest of us. Take for instance the fact he obviously liked to play the part of a famly man, but some criticize the fact he must not of lived that because he was married 3 times. Who cares! We love him because he spent most his life using his talents creating good, wholesome, feel good tv shows the whole family could watch. His personal life really isnt our business. Always loved Ma & Pa, grew up on the show & the cast was so good sometimes we felt they were real people. I loved Michael Labdon from the time he was Lil Joe on Bonanza but I think Michael, being an alcoholic & his childhood, he was a tortured soul as well. We only know her side of the story, not saying she is making anything up, but she as an alcoholic may have said or did things to Michael as well. One thing stuck out to me is her dad being alcoholic & had bad childhood as well so she may have transferred some of those feelings abt her father to Michael not really even realizing it., once we see ourselves as victims, we are victims. She has every right to publish her book but Michael isn't here to defend himself but I feel there were probably faults on both sides & it is s shame they couldn't have hashed all this out while he was alive. They were both great actors because not one ounce of that showed on the screen. Iconic show

I’m 75 & grew up watching many, many westerns. Bonanza was such a big hit & many people thought Michael Landon was so great. His character had a huge ego, but he always came across as a person who really did think he was THE star & he was wrong! Father, Ben was handsome & dignified, Adam was a very handsome younger version of tall, dark & handsome, who also had that smoldering underneath. Hoss was the adorable, loveable mountain, who would do anything to help someone.(Huge loss when he suddenly passed away)Adam’s appearances became less frequent & you could always tell there was no real friendship between any of them with Landon. The public was stunned when he had the affair with his make-up girl & left his wife & children for her during “Little House On The Praire”. The child actors were all disappointed in what a fake he was. He seemed to be the same character in all his series, including “Highway To Heaven”. He just always had that arrogant vibe. As a counsellor and having also suffeed sexual abuse, it is often something that you push down deep inside and don't tell. In the 70's and 80's sexual harassment of this nature was even somewhat accepted. How Karen speaks about being frozen when being abused is also a natural reaction. A flight or fight response. On the show she seemed rather anxious sometimes, as if she was upset. My heart goes out to you, Karen Grassle. You are extremely brave for speaking out. Here in England in the past decade there were TV personalities that were jailed for sexual harassment and abuse of women and children in the decades starting from the 70's due to the conditioning of women and the social norms of the time silencing the victims. They were immensely brave to speak out.

Love that show and all the lessons it provides. The world would be a better place if we learned some from it. Not surprising to hear that Hollywood had and has secrets and no actor should ever be our hero or role model. Everyone has some areas to work on.
