Summer school holidays are in full swing here in Thailand. Emilie's friend Sawang, who lives near the Thai/Burmese border in the mountains, spent a few weeks with us in Bangkok. This was a fantastic opportunity for Sawang to take professional drum lessons at a nearby music school and to share his love of Karen songs with our daughter, Emilie.
Sawang is 15 years old, and I've known him since he was a baby. He grew up surrounded by elephants, and his father, Krahan, was the head mahout at Elephants World.
Before Sawang returns to his village tomorrow, we wanted to record several traditional Karen songs together.
