One pot dinner. Easy and delicious.
Brown pork chops in oil and butter. Cut up potatoes in 2 inch pieces. Add to pot on top of chops. Do not stir. Add small amount of liquid. I used water. You could use chicken or vegetable stock if you want. When potatoes are fork tender, add chopped cabbage on top of potatoes. Again, do not stir. Slice onion, scatter on top of cabbage. Cut up smoked sausage and lay on top of cabbage and onions. Season each layer as you go with salt and pepper. Cover pot between each addition to allow the vegetables and chops to steam. Enjoy!

My mom cooked as she was taught by our Grandma. Simple, frugal, but always delicious. My mom's mom was originally from Ohio. Married and they moved out here to San Francisco so he could work on the Southern Pacific. My Grandma kept cooking, of course, while working a job herself, and our mom taught us, as we grew up, to cook as we grew up. Always had good meals on the table, morning, lunch in our lunch boxes and we all sat around the table for dinner. Lucky for my sister and me.

Ms Karen, your channel was such a wonderful surprise to pop up on KZfaq. I watched the entire video recipe and I have to say that the dish and biscuits look absolutely delicious. I have to try this myself and I thoroughly enjoy one meal dishes. This would have been perfect for me to take to work for lunch before I retired. And an added benefit is that potatoes, cabbage, and onions are still economical. Thank you 😊

Hi Karen! I tried this recipe yesterday and it was absolutely delicious. I was a bit skeptical at first because I thought....how can you pile everything on top of each other and it still turn out good. I am here to tell you it turned out great. Everything was tender and juicy. Those biscuits were fabulous. My husband said...I don't know what you did to these biscuits but they are the best I've ever eaten and he loves my homemade biscuits. These were a step above. So soft and moist. I think these will be my go to biscuits from now on. Thank you for sharing. I just had to let you know how much we enjoyed it.

This is a great recipe idea! My husband loves fried potatoes and sausage, I think adding the pork chops and cabbage is genius! I already put onions in everything. The Albertson’s store has some great sausage in that we really like. We used to make our own sausage but that’s a lot of work! We can get homemade sausage up in Beulah and Hazen, ND at their home owned grocery stores there. When we go visit family we stock up on sausages! Thanks again for your recipe. ♥️ Gramma Shar from Wyoming

I love her! I’d love to sit & help her in her kitchen… such a sweet soul! I must try this recipe. It’s a little different from fried cabbage, sausage & onions/garlic/red bell pepper, etc. The chops under all THIS recipe will have tons of flavor & more of a steamed cook to it all. (I’m learning new recipes as I’ve never really made cabbage before)

Here in the UK energy prices are rocketing, along with the cost of living generally. Anything you can do to inspire us with inexpensive ingredients - and minimal oven time - is very much appreciated! I've always struggled to cook pork chops that are tender not tough - these look wonderful, I will definitely be giving it a try. THANK YOU dear lady. Love & luck to you and yours, from me and mine! I'm going to make this tomorrow for my mom. I bet she's going to LOVE this one-pot meal. She loves everything I cook. I learned watching her when I was young. Now that she is old and can no longer cook as much as she used to, I cook for her every evening. I won't make the biscuits though because I'll be at her house and can't find anything. You know how it's not your kitchen and you can't find stuff? I'll just bring some store-bought garlic bread and heat that up in the air fryer for the bread to go with this meail. I love how you cook for real and take your time and show us step by step what you're doing. You have a really pleasant voice and demeanor. Watching you is just like watching my mom cooking or someone you know for a long time. Very comforting and encouraging. I'm so glad I found your channel. - Melynda I am in really good company. Please keep posting these! That final moment when you put the entire serving on the plate was (to me) the closest thing to Heaven on earth. I really like how you show each step in the process, even to the level of peeling the potatoes and measurements of things like butter and flour. It's helpful to those of us who aren't on your level. I'll bet that kitchen smells absolutely wonderful when you're cooking. I also like that you are from Alabama, the deep South. I'm an Okie, so not exactly deep South, but I've found that the deep South has perhaps the tastiest food in all of America. I recently spent a few months in Mississippi on a job assignment and could not believe how great the food was.

I saved this recipe and finally made it this evening. I like pork, cabbage and potatoes. So w/ the sausage that would be an added bonus. It’s simmering on the stove now and I’m getting hungrier by the minute. Thank you!

I haven't tried the biscuits yet -- but I can't resist -- I did cook the chops this way. One word. HEAVENLY. I didn't have the cabbage or sausage on hand, but I had the chops, potatoes and onions; I added carrots and peppers, as that is what I had on hand. Insanely tender chops that retained their flavor nicely. Thank you!! As a hog farmer's wife, I've always struggled to cook the pork he produces tenderly. The best thing you can teach me, though, if you've got it figured out, is how to just broil or pan-fry them to a suitable tenderness without adding the liquid, which makes them a pot-dish rather than "grilled." If you have a fool-proof recipe for that, I can't wait to see it. I will note that if I brine my chops for a day or so in an 8x8 etc,, pan with peppercorns, kosher salt and bay leaves, that works well, but is not foolproof. I've also discovered a recipe that brines TURKEY legs in buttermilk and they are as tender as can be when baked after that. Buttermilk seems to be a key for tenderizing. Would buttermilk (as a brine) tenderize chops?

@@KarenJonesFoodFamily How hot was the flame under the one-pot meal? Medium? Med-low? ? I'm poised to make this today with my HUGE cabbage (will only use about as much as a 1/2 a normal head). I'll email you too.

Approximately how long did you cook potatoes before adding the rest of ingredients? Then Approximately how much longer did it take to finish after all ingredients were added?😍
@KarenJonesFoodFamily
@KarenJonesFoodFamily 2 жыл бұрын
Maybe 10-15 minutes. Not quite done because they will continue cooking. Add rest of ingredients and cook until cabbage is tender. Maybe 15 minutes or so. Check for tenderness. Thanks for watching.

Thank you for your comment. It is recommended not to wash meat. The cooking temperature is so high it would kill any bacteria that might be on it. Thanks for watching.

@@KarenJonesFoodFamily in the meat and on the meat...it still needs to be soaked in salt vinegar and or lemon/lime ..it's very unhygienic and you cross contaminated a million times while prepping your meal regardless of your cleaning before or after, you keep clean during the process. Meal looks good just clean your meat first. Right out the package to the pan is no good for anyone and cause stomach parasites and a whole list of other issues. Maybe it's what you've done your whole life and if that's the case then rock on with yourself !!!
