Some of these folks aren’t Karens. Some were mentally unstable people, who are often found at airports, train stations, bus terminals. Travel enough, and you’ve seen all sorts of lost, deranged souls. Total respect for the employees who have to interact with them. It’s not easy.
@TroyOi

Glad you're saying that. It's sad that, often just for entertainment value, we've allowed the definition of "Karen" to be expanded to include people who are simply suffering from mental illness.

I remember when this specific video came out. This woman was raging at the passenger beside her because he had come to Washington to attend President Trump's inauguration. And the original video was about 30 minutes. It just went on and on and on as the cabin crew kept trying to get her to knock it off. And all the times they came to her, it was only AFTER the one dude said the Captain wants her off the plane that she came up with that story about dead mother-in-law.

To be fair 2 million net worth isn't THAT much. A first class round trip during peak holiday season that distance is a lot of money, and since he mentioned grandpa odds are that wealth is mostly generational meaning his daddy isn't earning $180k a year, he's living off his daddy's money and probably earning less so that $2k just for travel is a good sized chunk of his income.

I would bet that only one in a thousand follows-thru with lawsuits. It's too expensive, takes years, and time consuming--and attorneys won't take a case on a contingency unless the situation is extreme. What I've learned from working towards my MBA degree is that businesses are very happy to lose complainers as they cost too much in everyone's time to include management's time to handle, and a business can make no profit off them. Better to have customers who don't complain as that is their profit base--everyone else they WANT to leave. In short, if you don't like a business, don't complain (or complain gently) and give the ultimate complaint by going to other airlines.

Was at the airport and I missed the connecting flight, and I was standing in line to see what could be done. A Karen was in front of us freaking out. After she was done and stormed off I asked the airline lady if she needed a min and explained I already missed my flight, so if she needed to take a breather to take a min or two that was fine by me (there was no one else behind me). She took a sip of water, sighed, took a deep breath and then asked "how can I help?" "I know there is nothing tonight as you have already said, so I just need to re-book for tomorrow and maybe you know of a hotel nearby where I can stay the night?" "I can actually put you on standby for the red-eye flight, usually people cancel at the last min and we might be able to get you on there." I didn't get on the red-eye, but she did give me an employee voucher thingy for a discounted room. Moral - Be kind, no one is really out to get you.

This reminds me what happened once when I was flying back from new jersey to Florida. My flight was over booked and I had was bring my niece home. I went up to the desk because I wanted to see if I was going to make the flight because my nieces car seat was checked in. This guy was arguing with the check in lady anc the last thing he said to her was "Bitch I better be one that plane." She said "oh really" and she turned to me. I asked about me getting on with my niece because of the car seat she told me to hold on a second. Then she gave me my ticket and when walking down the ramp I looked at my ticket and it was first class. Guess I got his seat, and all I did was be respectful to her.

Very likely. The better options is not to do business with that airline again--and to be quite about that decision, except to complain to friends and family. Then your complaint effects a company's bottom line. Airlines don't want the business of people complaining or causing problems--they make no money off them. If you ran an airline, would you want the kind of people in this video doing business with you....and I'm talking the less confrontational cases such as the old lady who had a minor argument with another passenger whose mother-in-law had died. Better to pick your customers, shed yourself of those who are complainers as they'll never be satisfied and consume management's time.

@@SombraPiloto You are correct. When it comes to Spirit, there is no need to make up "shit" (pardon the pun). Coming out of the Great Recession of 2008-2010, all of the ULCCs were looking for ideas to increase revenues in ways that no airline had previously considered. Ireland-based Ryanair was the first to propose charging for bathroom access. Across the pond, Spirit jumped on board and floated a trial balloon. It quickly became clear that, while Spirit passengers might be willing to pay extra for carry-on bags, soft drinks, and seat assignments, they would draw the line at potty access. At that time, there was a bill proposed in Congress to mandate free access to airplane restrooms. As I recall from the distant past, the bill was dropped when Spirit announced that they had no intention of charging for potty privileges (though it was clearly a viable option a few days earlier). Frankly, I think Spirit realized that their typical customer would simply piss/crap into a cup, and leave it on their seat, rather than spend $1-2 to use the luxurious facilities on the plane. The additional cleaning costs would far exceed any potty revenue.

Yeah, I think you are asking a bit much of people who act like this to understand ANYTHING about the law. They think people can't film them. They think businesses are obliged to serve them. They think the police can't arrest them. They basically think the world revolves around the, (the ones who believe the world revolves at all that is). These kinds of people are just dumb or wilfully ignorant.

This is so sad. Many of these people are not Karens. They obviously have a ton of emotional and mental problems, and my heart goes out to them as much as to the staff who have to deal with them. Imagine this being your inner experience every day. Chilling.

I get what you’re saying but having emotional problems does not give you the right to delay, disrupt, attack, and otherwise inconvenience other people. There are plenty of people that deal with heartbreaking shit every day and manage to get through it without being abusive.

Holy shit, you could not pay me enough to work for an airline. I don’t have the personality to calmly and effectively deal with Karens like airline personnel in this video do. On the other side I can understand that people are annoyed sometimes. You need to keep in mind that many people on airports started their flight on the other side of the globe, maybe had 3 or 4 stopovers, were awake for 30 hours and then the airline messes something up. Patience can break sometimes
