Karl Hammer has been involved with rural life, horse-powered farming, and manure-based composting since his family left Manhattan for Vermont's North East Kingdom during his childhood. Since that time, his adventurous life has allowed him to found and develop several composting operations in Vermont, including the Vermont Compost Company, whose prized organic mixes are sought after by farmers and home gardeners across the Northeast.

We believe that the organic standards, with their focus on soil health, biodiversity, and animal welfare were written as they should be, but that the current lack of enforcement of those standards is jeopardizing the ability for small farms who adhere to the law to stay in business. The lack of enforcement is also jeopardizing the overall health of the customers who support the organic movement; customers who are not getting what they pay for at market but still paying a premium price. And the lack of enforcement is jeopardizing the very cycles (water, air, nutrients) that Earth relies upon to provide us all with a place to live, by pushing extractive, chemical agriculture to the forefront.

Historical archaeology of farming in Nth America is fascinating and although generally well understood in terms of movement of peoples into indentured slavery its seldom discussed in terms of the impact on soil to dirt. In Australia, vast land holding was established at the beginning with Vesty and Patrick White's holdings spanning thousands of miles from top to bottom. Just to mention a few. But, the British saw fit to nuclear fallout program across vast areas cover the entire inland to the coasts was how little regard this land was held in for absent colonial overseers. There is a book and a few PhD research questions here on what is regenerative and what does it really mean for humanity. Thanks for letting us sit in on your chat. I think it's a lot more relevant globally speaking than meets the surface.

I guess that the realisation of a life stile, a sober one, connected and rooted to the land, with communities managing its resource. May the trauma of the colonization and the scars of abuse not only lead us into the repetition, but instead to the transmutation of the pain into love, cooperation and service.

Maybe a more specific nomenclature is needed to differentiate the types/philosophies' of regenerative practices. We seem to always subdivide to differentiate. I would suggest No Chemical Regen Ag (NCRA)?

And geo-rngineering and it's profound negative impact. The cognitive dissonance is astounding. That doesn't take away any wonderful accomplishments of the many teachers.
