Karl Popper | Fallibilism | Falsification | Philosophical Methods | Lectures by Waqas Aziz
Karl Popper introduced Fallibilism or Falsification. He introduced this method to eliminate false theories and conceptions from the domain of Knowledge. Moreover, he stated that Falsification is the only method through which we can differentiate between Real Science and Pseudo Science. He also rejected Inductive Method and said that Deductive approach is the only true scientific method. The philosophical method of Karl Popper deals with following points;
- Rejection of Induction
- Falsification using Deduction
- Chart for Induction and Deduction
- Real Science Vs Pseudo Science

What I gather from your lecture is that fallibilism is an approach that favours the deductive approach. If that is the case, why are the two approaches added separately in the course. If they are different, then what basically is the difference between the two?
@lecturesbyWaqasAziz
@lecturesbyWaqasAziz 8 ай бұрын
Verily, the rational comprehension of various phenomena differs among different philosophers. Owing to which, they philosophize differently. Same is the case here. The Deductive Methods of Aristotle and Karl Popper deal with logical reasoning in a different manner. Deductive Method of Aristotle is actually a syllogism, which is the base of formal logic. This formal logic is a separate branch of philosophy, founded by Aristotle. Aristotelian syllogism revolves around the structure, components and validity of arguments. Unfortunately, Logic is not included in the syllabus of CSS. This is why, students are asked to have a general idea about the Aristotelian Logic. Otherwise, the syllogism of Aristotle is not that simple. Contrarily, Deductive method of Karl Popper deals with logical reasoning in general rather than as a formal logic. As he was greatly influenced by the Deductive Method of Aristotle, he developed his own philosophical method with a touch of deductive approach. His Falsification principle not only pinpoints the flaws in the classical inductive approach, but also assists in checking the validity of scientific knowledge through using deductive approach.

Fallibilism is the philosophical claim that no belief can have justification that guarantees the truth of the belief, or that no beliefs are certain. Is this statement true? If true then why didn't you discuss beliefs in your lecture?
@lecturesbyWaqasAziz
@lecturesbyWaqasAziz 2 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely right. Fallibilism is a detailed Philosophical School of Thought which comes under the realm of Epistemology. Peirce, Hume, Descartes etc have their own sayings and explainations on it. But, here we are talking about fallibilism as a Philosophical Method, given by Karl Popper. We use a slightly different approach here. Principle of Falsification is applied here. It is in my plan to make a detailed video on Fallibilism. Discussing the beliefs, examples, comparing and contrasting.
