India does not have this concept of 'dual nationality'. So he cannot be a citizen of India and NZ at the same time. That itself is a biggest violation of Indian passport laws.

I feel bad for separation from his wife and family, but in the US, If you misrepresent or overstay your visa, the same thing would happen. Same for Euro countries. Of course there are ways to appeal without being ignored, but this is India and it’s their right. I’m sure there’s more to the story, but break the rules and this is what happens.

I think that the reasons for him banned form india is that 1 - He visited few area of kashmir which was restricted for any foreign visitors. 2 - you can take part in any protest in india only if you are a citizen of india but he ignored it and took part in CAA protest. They banned him for legitimate reasons as India has a right to make and execute immigration rules. Indians abroad have to abide by very strict rules of conduct and it seems foreigners have the privilege of never having to think twice about it. That being said, I don't know how clearly the rules were explained to him that he would have known not to do these things.

One thing. He can't have dual nationality with Indian Citizenship. Indian law doesn't allow that. Moreover, he is not even eligible to apply for Indian citizenship yet, given he has been visiting india since 2013only. Additionally, 'visiting' wouldn't help, you have to live in India for continuous 11 years or for 12 years aggregated in 14 years from the day of moving to india.

One side of the story. If you don't abide by the rules you have to face consequences. Why is it that the media will accept this when it's a Western country and not accept when India does the same? Getting a Visa for any country is that country’s prerogative. It is not Karl’s birth right or some human right to demand he be allowed into India. Govt of India owes no explanation to any foreigner about their decision to allow or not allow them into India.

The Constitution of india does not allow dual citizenship, that is simultaneously holding indian citizenship and citizenship of a foreign country. But the government has granted overseas citizen of india (OCI) cardholder status to the persons of indian origin ( PIOs). Except from Pakistan and Bangladesh.

I've been a foreign resident of Japan for 15 years, lived in Korea and China and hold an OCI. The rules are the same anywhere; you are also not allowed to partake in protests in the host country as a foreign national. These rules are not India specific, they are everywhere. If India did not disclose reason for blacklisting him they are not obliged to say, the same way as Japan immigration will never tell me the reason if they reject a PR application. This guy is lucky he is white and used that to drum up publicity for his cause. They would have lifted it eventually, he had to be patient and wait and stop painting himself as a victim. Karl Rock should have gotten his Indian citizenship, before engaging in anti India anti CAA, NRC protests which were organized by foreigners to destabilize India. If he engaged in an anti US protest organized by foreigners inside the US as a tourist, the US would blacklist him as well. Foreigners can not enter other countries and do as they please and expect to have no consequences. There are rules set in place for a reason. He loves India, it is his passion, so he should have studied and familiarized himself with the laws in India.

I think karl is at guilty here . He took Indian government for granted . If u are a foreigner according to Indian law u can't take part in any political rally . Also he went to pok without goI permission . Follow the rules - I am an expat as well. Have to get advise from lawyers and dont break visa rules. The host country has no obligation to allow you to stay - the obligation is on you to follow the rules. All countries are super strict about visa violations.

Basically, Karl had been blacklisted due to his attendance/broadcasting and involvement in Indian political rallies which is a big no-no when on a tourist visa. Additionally, his travels to Pakistan have been a concern for the Indian government (not very long ago foreigners have travelled to Pakistan and have helped plot terrorist attacks in India). On a side note, he CANNOT have nationality of India & NZ, it is not allowed by law. He is a NZ national as of now.
