To Spaceand Joy......Frankly I think it is making the religion look like a Joke. One way or another you are going to have Buddhist monks and supporters whom are not going to be happy, regardless of which one they support, and it will creative division in the faith. Even if it is just a little. And keep in mind it is not the first time that Lamas or Rinpoche, or Karmapa's and any other reincarnated holy people of this religion get reincarnated into multiple bodies. By splitting an essence of their soul in those multiple bodies. It is rare but it has happened. According to the religion. Also keep in mind even in Christianity there is the belief that their will be a real messiah and a false messiah that is to come. Jesus, and the Anti Christ. And we are suposoto be able to distinguish the true messiah. It seems this is the case lately for many religions.

Nepali Nepali... Well they do have test in the Buddhist religion. Most of it is artifacts and necklaces that the Buddhist person in the prior life had. If pick those items among many other items, than that is considered an indicator to them. As well as other supposable tests they preform too.

There were already 7 Karmapas before the 1st Dalai Lama was recognized . 7 Karmapas were NEVER recognized by Dalai Lamas - so how can Dalai Lama be responsible ? Was 1st Karmapa Dusum Khyenpa not real ?

There was no Dalai Lama until 7th Karmapas . So they were not recognized by Dalai Lamas. Are you saying they are also fake ? What nonsense. Shamarpa was also recognized by 16th Karmapa - so is 16th Karmapa also wrong ?

dtseringdorje... I agree. I think it should be televised this debate, or if not televised for religious reasons, then brought out live among a crowed of thousands and thousands of people.. Particularly of the Buddhist religion. The Dali Lama should be present for it. Cause he is still one of the most senior lamas of the faith. And as for , " Knowledge" What happens if one Karmapa gets all the attention and all accesses to the knowledge. But the other doesn't cause he was not recognized by the Dali Lama, and there fore can not educate himself to spark that remembering of that specific knowledge? Even if he maybe the real lama? Lets face it, there has been a heck of a lot more recognition of one of the Karmapa's from the Dali lama then other one, and he is younger too. Frankly there is a underlining situation that he is a Chinese spy that was let lose on Buddhism to try to control the religion. Or gain intel. And he he did have Chinese friends. And then there is the other issue. Because it comes down to theology. What if because they are frankly two different denominations of Buddhism at play here. What is the real path of Buddha? Why so many different schools of thought. And not one school of thought? That's problem!

I don't choose any side but if you go back to history of TIBEt, there always been 4 major religion and shamar rinpoche is one of major lama of karma kagyu sect. And he is right about them choosing their own reincarnation of Karmapa. Talking about power, it goes both ways and there seem to be interference from Gyalug sect in choosing reincarnation whether it is in case of karmapa or Thulshik Rinpoche from Nyigma sect. In a way what I personally think H.H. Dalai lama himself being top guru and well known personality from Gyalug sect is trying to unionized all 4 sect of darmas in Tibetan Buddhism by having his own choices of reincarnated guru from other three sect. In a way, I think it is a good initiative to have common practice and prevail peace within all sect of darmas. However the problem here is that each sect of darmas has its own core values and ways of performing puja so the followers of each sect are not ready to accept one particular sect of darmas. Just my thought
