No concert, no show, will ever top this one in Oslo spectrum

I'll say what I always say.. Poets and pioneers.. These boys are our boys. The make our nation come together like our dearest King Harald with their words.. I'm not sure I would survive their concert, I wouldn't be able to breathe through the tears.. Their concerts are insane.

The duo is Karpe. Name of the album is Omar Sheriff. Song is Baraf/Fairuz. They are becoming a Norwegian national treasure. They do not only sing for immigrants/children of immigrants, they also teach the rest of us a lesson. We learn. Love them! And love your reaction.

They are the voices of generations. Building bridges. Wording feelings and situations, normally not spoken about. But is definitly lived, defining identities. Just imagine having to be your parents teachers, having to help them navigate a new language and culture. Coming to the doctors Office, public offices, reading letters about taxes etc. Knowing things about grown ups, as children. Being the one to tell your mom or dad how to take their medicine, train, eat right.. A defining responibility that natives don't experience, and therefor are oblivious to it... Until Karpe has made so many songs about this blind spot for so many in the "same" society.

I'm glad this is subtitled. It's not like I'd understand the lyrics either. I am Norwegian and a big fan of Karpe Diem (Most/all of their work is in Norwegian) but I never heard this until now and I was just looking at your videos and found this. I was pleasantly surprised but not sure what to expect from a reaction from an English speaking person. They have always been amazing lyrically and this is no exception. The are the realest rappers ever and they're real because they talk/rap about their experience in life in a way that isn't "hardcore". They play on words and feelings. I'm a Norwegian native but I've have friends who are immigrants who feel like they are somewhere between our culture and their parents culture. I can't even imagine what that's like. I like to think that I do my part to make sure they don't feel like strangers here and I am genuinely interested and respectful of their roots as well. I will be attending one of my best friends wedding in a couple of months and he hooked me up with traditional Pakistani festive clothing for it. I told him I would show up in a suit but I'd love to honor his traditions if it wasn't too weird. I don't want to appropriate his culture like that at all. He was very happy with me coming in traditional clothing and I'm honored to "be allowed" to wear it and even be invited to the ceremony. It can't be easy growing up Norwegian and not feeling Norwegian. Know what I mean? I'm not even sure if I know. But I just want to be there for him and I'm honored be part of such an important day. To me he's just a friend, not an immigrant or some BS like that, and I want to be there for the major events of his life.

Thank you for reacting to Karpe! They deserve more international publicity and recognition. They have been active for over 20 years now. Previously all their songs and albums had only Norwegian lyrics. To choose to rap in Norwegian, and not English is choosing resistance. This is the first time they mix in other languages without any excuse. They say “Come meet us halfway. We will not explain the words, expressions, and cultural references you don’t understand. Educate yourself, ask your Hindu friend, Arab friend, Norwegian colleague, French mor German neighbor.” PAF.no is their foundation giving to projects helping refugees, asylum seekers, and immigrants, not only in Norway. Singer Emilie Nicolas, rapper Jonas Benyoub, violinist Harpreet Bansal. Journalist Youhan Shanmugaratnams read the intro lyrics, which was originally part of his criticism review of this album. His interpretation of all the “Why don’t you” was the child’s accusations towards the parent not being able to fit in. His review helped many Norwegians understand the struggles of being an immigrant, and taught us a lesson, just like @erikkarlsen5675 said.

Before Karpe they were Karpe Diem rap duo in 2004 and now they have taken us be storm . as a Norwegian i love them.

I like the Arabic inspired string music played on a traditional Norwegian Harding fiddle, that’s really cool. Lots of bits in this that you will miss if you don’t have a foot in all the cultures represented, you were able to point out several things I would not have noticed as a Norwegian without migrant ancestry. Really cool.

Karpe had 10×12.000 spectators on these conserts over 10 days in 2022. Thats 120.000 people seeing this consert in a city of 700.000 inhabitants (1.5 mill in the greater Oslo area). So you could say that 1 in 10 people living in or near Oslo visited this consert.

Omar Shariff was a famous Egyptian actor. The most famous in Egypt. Not sure if that was a tribute. I remember watching Dr. Zivalgo as a child an was so impressed of his presence and how he carried himself with authority. This group is very impressive as well.

"on top of the world" is also a reference to Norway, which is quite literally at the top of the world geographically. So they talk about both being "on top in life" and also perhaps the isolation of being here in the north, on the actual top of the world.

Just seeing this now. Love your reaction. Some of their dancers are from the famous Norwegian hip hop dance group called TheQuickStyle, with a very diverse ethnic background of Pakistanis, Thai, Indians, Sri Lankan, Moroccan, Phillipino, African, Chinese, Vietnamese, Norwegian, Swedish, etc. While they were #2 in Asia and known in Europe, their world really opened up when the were discovered by the south Asian market through a dance video of theirs called The Famous Wedding Show. One of the founding Pakistani brothers was getting married and as is customary in Indian and Pskistani’s cultures, a “Sangeet” is held on a night before the wedding where all kinds of dances are performed. The other dancers put together this compilation of 6 songs to dance to and it became viral immediately with million of viewers and everybody reacting to it. You should check it out, it’s very happy and the songs are ethnically mixed and the first time the guys did something like that.

If somebody comes to a foreign country as an immigrant they should respect that country's laws, the culture and people and do an effort yo be a part of the country, not to be a segregated part of the new country. If they cant do that they have nothing to do there and should be kicked out directly. The same goes for economic immigrants who only come to live on benefits and never do a day of honest work. To Norway, Sweden , Denmark and Finland it is only 3% of the so called refuges is people who are real refuges, the other 97% is economic/benefit immigrants.

I really think s pakistani or indian immigrant to norway gets more than his equal share of Brotherhood and respect. I do not think a Norwegian immigrant to pakistan or inda will enjoy the benefits given the same rights as pakistani or indian citizens. stop complaining or go" home" that goes from "karpe diem" as well.
