Definitely one of my favourite Kasabian songs. It's so powerful. And Tom's acting is really good.

Man I used to love Kasabian when I was young, pretty much around the time you made this comment. Recently I was listening to all the songs I used to like back in the day and I wasn't enjoying them like I used to, including most Kasabian stuff. But this one song still feels as good as ever

The Crimean War (1853 - 1856) was a conflict between the Russian Empire and an alliance of the French Empire, the British Empire, the Ottoman Empire, and the Kingdom of Sardinia. The war was part of a long-running contest between the major European powers for influence over territories of the declining Ottoman Empire. It is considered to be the first "modern" wars as it "introduced technical changes which affected the future course of warfare," the first tactical use of railways and telegraph.

@@slyestfox935 probably signalling, most people were illiterate at that time so semaphores were usually used to convey orders and directions which really limited the complexity of plans that could be executed well in the field

In England, they're massive, one of the biggest bands in the UK, outside of the UK they're kinda small, so on an international scale they are kinda underrated

They're not underrated here in the UK. They're acknowledged as one of the best bands and certainly one of the best LIVE acts we've had over here for years.

Just finished a book about the Crimean war and it got me thinking of this video, I'm probably 50 years out or so but such a good video and song.

This is probably indeed based on the Crimean War. The uniforms are artillery uniforms used by the British at the time, although also for, yes, about 50 years either side - but notice at 2:51 the cannon with cyrillic script, and at the end the pistol which must be from the 1850's or later.

kiki mc The story comes from the Prussian war, basically the runner was sent to tell the troops that they had to surrender and come back from the front line as the position was unattainable, but the enemy was sensing an easy victory so they decided to shoot the messenger at the time it was considered a big no no and ungentlemanly to shoot an officer, medic or an officer. The troops were angry that generals had lost faith in them and now the other army was disrespecting them too so they decided to fight, and fight they did, but they were executed as they were insubordinate. War is crazy.

stephen Rowan I Believe you are wrong my good sir, this is based of the Crimean War it is about the Charge of the Light Brigade where a whole British light hussars where gun down by Russian cannons and kasabian are ment to be survivors from the 11th Hussar heading back to the friendly lines but instead are killed by there own officers for retreating, the song itself is on about the generals keep making the same stupid decisions that keep getting more men killed.

I agree with you in every aspect of what you have said. This is a topic that I could talk about for hours. One quote regarding this issue stands out to me, it's from a movie: "we're on the brink of destruction, but it's only on the brink that people find the will to change. Only at the precipice do we evolve." It's not exactly related, but it's aplicable. It's going to take a precipice-- something larger than life --to get us to change.

+DRUMMING x LIAM On an English keyboard, the keys to make those letters would spell out "The glorious death", that being the sarcastic message of the song, that it's not "glorious". I remember when I found this song a couple years ago people were bitching in the comments saying that they're stupid for thinking changing the letters like that translates into another language, and it's like, no shit they know that's not how languages work.

What an incredible video; so well made and produced. The part where a posh toff blows a dandelion and common soldiers are scattered with its spores is a very elegant metaphor for war. Plus Tom and Serge look hot.

When I was younger I was shocked and highly scared whenever this video was broadcast, and my mother also told me how frightening it was. However the music held in this videoclip is something incredible, magically triggered and adorned by guitars. It sends you back to the '80s or the '70s because the originality shown cuddles the need of the strictest listeners, of those who still rely on the outstanding rock power and those who keep highlighting the greatest founders in the alternative scene. Kasabian are decently known and commented, they demonstrated that a few bands still want to be creative, groundbreaking and addictive to the crowd. Don't miss their charm!

I was 10 when this came out. I'd loved them since 2004. I was 8 years old.. But this made me fancy tom so, so much! I watched it around 20 times a day because i liked him so much! I still do! I got to saw them finally in June. It was amazing! :)
