the idea of having to buy a dark and light skin tone pack separately is.... a pretty big yikes
@k8g8s8
@k8g8s8 4 жыл бұрын
Big yikes! especially because in art supply stores they often only have the light packs cause they assumed people would want that more. I had that problem in a store in New York where they had almost no dark skin tones unless it was in big shared packs (too expensive for me at the time) and when I asked about darker skin tones they told me they didint have any cause it didiny sell well.
@k8g8s8
@k8g8s8 4 жыл бұрын
But one thing I understand with having dark and light skin tone packs is that it makes sure that most skin tones are reprisented even in brands that only do small packs.
@tommypalmer3032
@tommypalmer3032 4 жыл бұрын
I personally don't think they separated them because of like segregation and racism and such. I think they wanted to make them smaller packs so they can get a bigger variety of lighter tones and darker tones. And sometimes you might already have the lighter tones and want just darker tones. Or vice versa. It could be very useful that way to a buyer! But if they weren't doing it for that, would be a big yikes.

0_dysphorica_0 Bro most of the “dark skin tones” ain’t even dark, and even if they do out of 10 markers they’ll have two that are actually dark. I have no idea why some art companies refuse to actually put dark shades in dark skin tones

The Ohuhu markers win it for me in terms of variety of tones. I'm really liking what I'm seeing of the Ohuhu markers in general, just wish that my colouring books were paper that can handle markers, but I know they won't (via reviews and just knowing what the paper is like - not marker paper at all!). And I don't draw my own stuff. So I both want them because they look quite fun to play with, but then realise I probably wouldn't ever get to use them properly as the things I'd want to colour couldn't handle it.

Just did my first grayscale manga/comic page with some gray shaded Tombow pens and they actually didn't do that unless I over-pressed (even then, it didn't not majorly damage anything). Now, the paper I used was from my Dollar General sketchpad, made for both dry and wet art alike-so maybe try that kind of paper that can withstand wet art also.

As someone who uses Tombow, I highly recommend using water with them. They're super vibrant as watercolor and you can make all sorts of different shades! As someone who couldn't quite get into using straight watercolor or alcohol markers, Tombow marries the strength of both perfectly. Personally I don't use the colorless blender, going straight over with a waterbrush works wayyy better.

Hotea I think the reason why you don’t find that many dark skinned or tan characters is that there aren’t enough dark skin toned colours to use in sets. It’s quite concerning because all skin tones are equal and apparently company’s don’t put that in mind and make some for people to use.

to be honest, my main medium are colored pencils and i mix my skin colors from ochre, sienna, umbra and brownish red tones. You can even mix Skin color from pink and yellow, that's probably why the Black Widow Set had some very out there colors. I would never really use these skin colored pencils, as they are mostly not real enough.

The green makes quite a bit of sense because these skin tone sets tend to be way too red/pink so it'll cancel that out a bit. But if they're gonna add green they could go all out and add a light blue as well. It would add a lot of versatility.
