The ancient Silk Road city of Kashgar in Xinjiang, China, is undergoing redevelopment. But while the centuries old buildings are being replaced there is an attempt to retain a sense of the old streets and buildings.

Great video. Actually you should visit the alleyways, more authentic and fewer crowds. The Uyghur kids are having a good time while their mothers chitchat.

Replacing old and ugly buildings with better and safer buildings is part of the modernization process. With the population growth, a congregation of these old buildings will turn into an overcrowded slum and an eyesore to the city. All developing countries such as Brazil, India, Indonesia, etc. have a lot of very poor people and plenty of slums everywhere in their cities.

Gordon Lawrence you’ve put together a wonderful film showing the lives of to me far off people, showing them honestly, one minor criticism is the music was too loud in parts, I would much rather I heard your words rather than chirpy music. I noted that there were signs depicting Uighur presence , according to the yanks all they get is interrogated, funny how a gentle film can betray the vilest lie.
