Chadi, thank you very much for this incredible video. It always brings me great joy whenever you mention Kashiwazaki or Komuro sensei in your videos! Ne-Waza is certainly my favourite aspect of judo and Katsuhiko Kashiwazaki is my favourite Budo master of all time. I have collected over the years, every single book (And even old VHS tape, DVD) in Japanese that he published (or co published with Koji Komuro) about Ne-Waza. Over the years I also collected many magazines from Japan spanning the last few decades that Kashiwazaki sensei contributed to, or was featured in. This was a very difficult job and I'm still finding ones that i have been looking for every now and then, but i find that it is extremely important when trying to research or understand him more deeply. He is someone i deeply admire, I also find his early days and first interactions with Judo very interesting. That's why i focused quite a bit on collecting magazines that had some pages written by him or ones that he was featured in. There are some very interesting information and fantastic photographs of his Judo journey within those magazines that i urge people who are interested to read. I met him once with my brother, before he was about to teach a class, we had a quick chat and he kindly signed our Japanese Ne-Waza book for us, and after that i couldn't help but to be even more motivated to improve my Ne-Waza so i also signed up for BJJ classes. I still watch his VHS Ne-Waza video and no matter how many times i watch it, i learn something new and try to apply that in my randori.

Thanky you sharing the link to this book. Kashiwazaki is one of the all time greats of our sport. Thanks to his books I learned a great deal about tomoe-nage and ne-waza.

Jigoro Kano's only mistake was not to encourage a finished throw to be followed by a ground technique which could award more points after the throw itself. That would be a complete 17th century jujitsu. Oda and Kano's disciplines are complementary and they should have recognized it and integrated it to a better judo. Yoshida, Kanto in my book, as well as Masahiko Kimura did indeed achieve the discipline repertoire of true 13-18 century samurai.

@@scarred10read historical manuscripts and you’ll see how wrong you are in this regard. In armored combat, it was common for the decisive factors to be grappling and groundwork, holds, pins, and executions through holding the opponent in a manner that allowed you to work a blade into the joints of the armor. You have to consider the necessity of being in close proximity to your enemy and the fact that you’re fighting hand to hand. Locks and throws that employed the pole arms and blades of samurai were common because of it, and thus fights were often taken to and finished on the ground.

@@UsDiYoNabeautiful explanation. Also grappling can manipulate the joints of the armor, where striking could not. And off balancing could indeed hold an opponent still on the ground so the blade can go in through the smaller entry points

Great video. I was under the impression that with Kani jime, the legs pressed on the hands which were inside of them, on the neck. Legal therefore as not a direct scissors strangle with the legs? At least it was back in the day
