Got to drive out to the great Pacific Northwest this summer and a spend a couple weeks with some great artists. Even got to catch up with our old friend Kassi Valazza up in a non-disclosed location in the forests of Portland, Oregon. Kassi introduced me to Taylor Kingman, the most interesting man in Portland, and overall, one of the most sincere and talented hombres in the City of Roses.
I want you to enjoy this haunting rendition from a country/folk legend. His name is Michael Hurley. And even though you may have not heard of him, you have definitely heard his songs. The album "Armchair Boogie" is required purchasing for new listeners. And if you call yourself a fan, why don't you own "Armchair Boogie?"
“Hurley is bedrock heat and alien spores. No human zero. And we gotta say, he’s our daddy, our hero,” says Kingman.
I don't pretend to be an expert on Michael Hurley, but after making this video and hanging around Portland with Taylor for a couple of days, him and Kassi are the real experts, the real fans, the real torchbearers. Consider this the most amazing homage to the great singer-songwriter that is Michael Hurley. Taylor and Kassi honor the legend with this great take of "I Stole The Right to Live."

I’ve been pretty down recently. Struggling to find the lighter side of things. This song literally stopped dead in my tracks, milling about my house. I just stood hypnotized and watched these two beautiful people make the most beautiful and honest sounds. I didn’t hear a single word they sung, but rather I listened to the sounds they made with my soul. It reached right into me the way only music can. It made me cry. I’m a grown ass man. I got leaking eyes now. Thank you two so much for this moment, I hope this message finds you.

Hey Crusher.....battling Lung Cancer ATM.....surgery/chemo/ radiation....all the fun things......this song stopped me dead in my tracks, milling about my house. (shock...horror)....I'm a muso. I agree with what you posted...Don't be down Man...there's a guy in Australia who reckons you got it spot on...good judgement....this is music and also Art......so beautiful and gentle and caring...the humility of the Traveller....I've listened to this song 20 times and it just keeps getting better...Like me and You Dude!

Wow. These two are incredible together...they go together like whiskey and heartbreak! Kassi has catapulted herself into my favorite female vocalist, and Kingman sounds amazing. The production quality is second to none, as always! I had forgotten that I had heard this song on the movie, "Lucky" and am so happy to be re-introduced to it, and to learn more about Michael Hurley's music, as well as Taylor's and Kassi's.
