It's one thing to swap well known speakers in and out of budget solid state amps, but what happens when you swap stock speakers between $200 50 watt amps? In this video I compare the Katana 50 and Champion 50XL speakers with each amp pushing them.

Wow i just try the boss katana amp and i just realised its one of the most versatile amps in the world, you can get every sound sounding really good.

I have a Fender champion 50XL with the Celestion Midnight speaker, and it's f'ing great. At "3" it's already incredibly loud. I did a live gig with it set between 3 and 4. I set the tone from my guitar workstation, using the clean channel on the amp. If you play with it a little you can get excellent tone.

I bought both a Fender Champion 50XL and a Boss Katana 50 MkII last week and finally got a chance to sit down with them tonight...gotta say, I was REALLY heartbroken over how weak and thin the Katana sounded back to back with the Fender...Ryan's 100% on point, the Fender just sounds and feels fuller in the room...the one thing I need to do with the Katana since it was used is I do need to make sure the software is updated and clear out any Tone Studio presets from the previous owner, so "maybe" it's a software or preset/patch issue...but as of right now I'm leaning towards it coming down to the Fender having a larger cabinet and that Celestion Midnight 60 speaker as to why it sounds so much better...I just wish the Fender Champion 50XL had all of the features the Katana does...

Interesting, I had the fender champion 50 xl and sold it because of the noises he makes in higher volumes. And I bought a katana mk2 last week. And I have to say the katana sounds better in all points. Maybe you have to make a factory reset with your katana?

I would love it if you added some gentle, sustained extended chords to the clean section of your speaker comparisons. You do a great job of highlighting the attack of brisk, percussive tones, but I suspect that most people are with me in terms of wanting to listen to the decay envelope as well. It’s harder to hear what’s happening with chime and upper harmonics when most notes are driven hard, and abruptly choked off.

I have a katana mini that I basically converted to a head and running to a cellestion green ( home made cab) does the job brilliantly.

Don't forget that the Boss speaker has to sound good on its acoustic guitar setting as well, so perhaps they have voiced it with a bit of a compromise.

The size of the champion box allows more air flow through the speaker. Thats why its fuller. Best test is katana 100 on 50 watt setting. Youll hear the diff immediately.

The speaker in the 100 is different than in the 50.

I picked up a katana 50 used with a Cannabis Rex already installed. It sound fine, however I was never able to A/B the two.

As for a speaker swap... is the Katanas problem the smaller cabinet? I feel that is strangling it more than the actual speaker.

They both sound best in this video with their own speaker. I've heard the katana modded with a Celestion v30 and it sounds like the fender. Both amps sound great, just different. I have a Celestion from the 80s in my katana right now after watching your first video in the series. It gives it a darker, bassier and higher gain tone. Very Marshall like. I also have a peavy blue marvel i am going to try later,

I have a celestion 12" G12T75 16 ohms, will it work on the Katana 50??

There's a speaker shootout with the Katana 100 on the Anderton's KZfaq channel and for my taste the V30 is way too dark for the Katana

Both sounded good. I have a 12" Celestion G12T75. It's 16 ohms will it work on the Katana 50?

I have both. The only thing I like about the Katana. Is it has a acoustic channel. Other wise the fender. For the price fender is good.

The reason the the fender as you said farted out is because you have to much bass you should set the bass at between 11 or 12 o’clock position and set the treble at 1 o’clock and the fender comes with a Celestron speaker 🔈 and I’ve set my buddy’s fender lx 50 that way and even set the bass at between 11/12 o’clock position and the treble on the fender and put the volume at between 1 or 2 o’clock position and you’ll get a better results

So, my suspicion was correct!! The power section of the Fender is crap! This is why it farts out at high volume! The pre amp is great though!

Okay, it probably isn't crap but it is likely class D, the Kat is class AB, so when the power section breaks up it sounds okay, when the class D breaks up it sounds like farts on ice!!

totally, i think the fender sounds surprisingly great at lower volumes, the katana crushes it at band volumes. Both are way better amps than id ever expect for $220.

Put in a Celestion Super 65 speaker in each amp and see what happens.

Iv''e watched quite a few of these comparisons and although the Katana has better metal FXs it sounds tinny compared to the Fender on almost all other settings.

I'm not sure if this is a reliable test. Fender would have taken the time to match the pre-amp output and tone to the speaker they chose for the amp (or vice versa). So would Boss. So each one is probably going to sound better on it's own matched pre-amp/speaker combination. Also, as in your previous video speaker swap, the sound we hear out here (IMHO) is not reflecting your description. When you played the Fender through the Katana, I thought it sounded more full and punchier. Could be the KZfaq compression method we're hearing.

I'm really not sure what you were doing here. I was under the impression that you were using the Katana amp through the Fender speaker and the Fender through the Katana speaker. ...but the arrows in the video just moved to either the Katana or the Fender, and I couldnt tell if they referred to the amp being used or the speaker being used. Confusing and odd.

I got confused too. But in the end he's using the Katana amp to power the fender stock speaker and the Katana stock.

Hey Ryan, do you know what resistance these speakers are? I have a Celestion 70/30 lying around that I pulled out of a Marshall DSL40 and I think the boxy sound of the Katana 50 could really benefit from the high end of the Celestion, but it's 16 ohm.

Same here, I got a celestion G12T75 from the 90's it's 16 ohms. Can I put it in the Katana 50? Oh, by the way I tried that on the DSL40C and sounded better than the seventy 80.

The Katana 50's speaker is 4ohm.

I think Fender is getting a little to close on making money on a low price point. A few dollars more could be a better product but its not the formula they are on.

On the katana you should check out eminence speaker or warehouse speaker 🔈 they have a great selection of speakers it depends on what kinda clean sound you are looking for and by the way the fender I think more pedal friendly that the katana 🤔
