Kate appearing on a kids show to discuss her music right after she made the video for "Sat In Your Lap". She has props and her storyboard for the video.

I still find it incredible that this quietly spoken young woman is responsible for one of the the most ambitious art/pop albums of all time. She literally sings her heart out on The Dreaming. If Kate were a Marshall Amp then she’s turned up all the way to 11 on this one.

I love how she talks in interviews. She is very expressive and articulate without being pretentious. She holds those kids attention by talking simply without talking down to them. You can tell they can relate to her and what she's saying. Not many people in the pop world can manage to be so creative and off the wall and surreal without being seeming a bit odd and detached, but Kate does.

This film is a perfect example of how children are much wiser than people give them credit for, Kate-bush is child-like and worldly-wise. She is Genuine,her music came from a passion, an undiluted vision, no-one dumbed-it down or got in the way. Creativity is the key to a life lived fully.

Notice how very well at ease she is when speaking with the children. She is so childlike herself and they all sense it innately. Isn't she lovely, softspoken, humble, non-affected... God how we need more people like her in the spotlight. Kate - I love you! ~Jon

Can you imagine being a kid and having someone famous or your idol hand you a prop from one of their recent pieces of work so you can wear it? I can't think of too many famous people who'd do that now or even back then. What a very special thing Kate did there for those kids!

It actually goes further than that. The person in charge of Kate at EMI, Bob Mercer, actually tore up her original contract after Wuthering Heights and negotiated a new one. Kate records for a corporation consisting of her self and family, of which she is the sole employee. EMI doesn't hear a note of her music until she is done, then they can only release or reject it. So she has less pressure on her than most any other artist in modern music.

I adore this lady, she is a super star in every sense of the word, Her undeniable artistic talent, a unique voice go without need of further elaboration. What strikes me the most though Is Kate Bush`s warm approachable demeanour. She never gives the impression she is doing people a favour when she does rare interviews. She is humble, down to earth and has never been in this game for the fame and the celebrity. She just an artist who wants people to experience her take on the world be it through song, dance, video. She always kept true to her self writing songs that meant something to her rather than kow towing to record industry bosses milking the latest music fad till it was dried out. Thats why Kate is so long lived, remembered and loved still today. I am so glad that younsters are discovering her music too. God bless this example of how money wealth and celebrity do not have to turn you into a self centered egotistical maniac like so many of todays so called "Artists"

I was actually at Tyne Tees Studios on a school trip the day this was filmed. I must’ve been about 12, so this has to be at least 40 years ago. I wasn’t lucky enough to be sat in the group of kids around her, but there was a bank of seats sloping back from the stage and I was up there. Kate had already had major success by then, but at the time I never imagined what an unique and influential artist she would become. This trip must’ve planted a seed because from about 16 years of age I became a fan and have been ever since.

This is priceless. How many other rock stars of the time would have storyboarded their own videos? That's the difference between the lucky amateur and the artist. I like the way she doesn't talk down to a child audience. And those props. Imagine what they would be worth if they cropped up on 'Antiques Roadshow'. Ah Kate, make the rumours true. I loved the pace of TV back then. Just a group of children sitting around listening to Kate talking passionately about her love of music. This is one of the best interviews with her. Simply because there is no pretence about the questions. Children just keeps things simple and it allows Kate to be herself. I learned more from this 7 minutes than most of her adult interviews combined. It's a shame it's not about 4 hours long. I could listen to Kate talking like this forever. As others have said, the children are transfixed because she is just so engaging and enthusiastic about everything she says. She still is to this day. She often says how lucky she has been to have the opportunities she has had. I would rather see it that we are all lucky to have been blessed by how remarkable she is, as a singer, songwriter and above all, as a person.
@randy63ism12 жыл бұрын
You would never see an "artist" like Madonna or Lady Gaga do a show like this. What a shame. It just goes to show how comfortable, confident, and well rounded Kate Bush is as a decent human being who never lost her sense of humility or let her ego get the better of her. Such honesty seems to be fleeting these days, or a little harder to find. Oh God, how I love this woman! Real class.

This is the best Kate Bush interview I've seen. I think the kids make her more relaxed and make her feel like she can connect with them. On other interviews I get the feeling she is being very polite with some of the questions she gets asked. Some of the hosts are so predictable. She's a real inspiration to anyone, especially children.

We were spoilt in the late 70's and early 80's with an abundance of credible artists such as Kate Bush, never a duff chart, and always something interesting and exciting to listen to.
