(Lyrics):
If I only could I'd be running up that hill
If I only could I'd be running up that hill
It doesn't hurt me
Do you want to feel how it feels?
Do you want to know that it doesn't hurt me?
Do you want to hear about the deal that I'm making?
You it's you and me
And if I only could
I'd make a deal with God
And I'd get him to swap our places
Be running up that road
Be running up that hill
Be running up that building
If I only could oh
You don't want to hurt me
But see how deep the bullet lies
Unaware I'm tearing you asunder
Ooh there is thunder in our hearts
Is there so much hate for the ones we love?
Tell me, we both matter don't we?
You it's you and me
It's you and me won't be unhappy
And if I only could
I'd make a deal with God
And I'd get him to swap our places
Be running up that road
Be running up that hill
Be running up that building
Say if I only could oh
You
It's you and me
It's you and me won't be unhappy
C'mon baby c'mon darling
Let me steal this moment from you now
C'mon angel c'mon c'mon darling
Let's exchange the experience oh
And if I only could
I'd make a deal with God
And I'd get him to swap our places
Be running up that road
Be running up that hill
With no problems
And if I only could
I'd make a deal with God
And I'd get him to swap our places
Be running up that road
Be running up that hill
With no problems
And if I only could
I'd make a deal with God
And I'd get him to swap our places
Be running up that road
Be running up that hill
With no problems
If I only could
Be running up that hill
With no problems
If I only could I'd be running up that hill
If I only could I'd be running up that hill

I grew up in the 80s too and it's definitely the golden age for music. That new generations find some music from that age for the first time and fall in love with them now as we did back in our days just proves me right when I say that. And for more than music, life is never perfect of course but by God was it a great decade to be a kid growing up. Songs from the 80s like this will always be the soundtrack to my life and I will never get tired of listening to them.

This song is so dramatic and dynamic, lyrically and musically, it was just MADE to be used brilliantly by some clever filmmaker or showrunner. Kudos to Stranger Things for being that show! I'm not a huge Kate Bush fan, but this is one of the greatest songs of the 80's, a stone cold classic of the era, and so glad it is being heard so broadly, and so well for this generation.

That sounds like it makes no sense but I'll give an example It's like setting your favorite song as your alarm for way too long. Atleast, that's how I think of it. This song, while unremarkable at first, became familiar throughout the season every time we saw Max with her headphones on. It took on a new meaning. Then when it seemed she would succumb to Vecna’s curse, “Max’s favorite song” coupled with flashback sequences of her happiest moments with friends triggered an emotional response (in her, but also the viewer) and I adore it now.

It's so wild how previous generations of music can touch and influence future generations. From the comments I can tell this one was a bust in the 80's, but the cultural landscape is so different. People are sad, morose, defeated and beaten by society, and that calls for darker sadder music. The modern youth need to cry, to scream, and be themselves totally. A lot to draw from such a hopeful, creative, but conversely optimistic time.

If you like the lyrics of this song, the same theme is kind of carried in “Why Can’t I Be You” by the Cure. The tempo is completely different, but I feel like the message in the lyrics is similar. 👍

I was born in 1986. The year the show is set in. Believe it or not in the Former Soviet Union and I have never ever heard this song considering that I’m a professional musician and has integrated myself into American music culture way above my neck! Maybe it’s my dislike of the 80s rock and most pop what stopped me from indulging myself into that era. However this song is a fucking masterpiece It’s timeless P.S. I have lived in the United States for 21 years
