I’m a middle schooler, and I personally love 80’s to 90’s songs. And this one is actually amazing. My brother has autism, and I wish he could just walk in my shoes and just feel the freedom of being able to understand or talk. This song really relates to me, and I just love it so much.

This comment made me cry. I work with children on the spectrum and I love my job. Honestly I believe they have it easier in many ways than we do, or I’d like to think that because their sensory experience is so different. Just today my husband was saying how they will have a much easier test in life to be accepted in heaven. And that makes them and their parents so lucky. :)

My brother has autism and he is fully functional and he has more than just autism but growing up with him and my other brother and me being the youngest in my family I understand mental illnesses very well and I know that mental illnesses are real and that is why I am study for a psychology degree currently and I will graduate and get an associate degree in psychology in 1 year from now. I just wish people would accept us that are different know matter if we have mental illnesses or something is wrong with us we are humans too. I may not have autism but I have mental illnesses of my own everyone has something wrong with them, but that is what makes us special it is not a disease it is a superpower. Hopefully I did not offend anyone.

When you look more into the lyrics, a part says "Swap our places" "Exchange experience" and this is max's favorite song. From her trauma, she said if she only did something to save billy he wouldn't be gone. She blames herself, because she just stood up and watched the whole thing. This song says it all, max wanted to go back at that time and swap places with billy so he could be saved. This is so incredibly wise.

In all honesty I think in the end when they had their moment and he was Billy again. I think they made that connection that she was genuinely terrified to live life without him and he did in fact love her. He protected El, showing he wanted to protect Max and her friends. I agree though with the fact I wish they had that full conversation. He deserved to feel love again.

I lost my dad last year and have felt guilt/failure since. I know this song is about a relationship but I felt Max and her survivors guilt during this whole scene and welled up. I wish I'd known this song before. Fantastic song. Fantastic scene. Fantastic acting.

Man, my much older cousin used to listen to this endlessly in the late 80s when she was a teen. Chapter 4 reminded me of how much 4 year old me liked this one, as well as studying braille alphabet flashcards. Made it epic. lol

@sketchist460 That's originally what Kate wanted to do, but after being discovered by Dave Gilmour from Pink Floyd at age 15, with 2 albums worth of material she'd already composed (actually much more), she ended up having to do it all herself. Writing, recording and producing.
