Ahead of her return to TV on Thursday, Kate Garraway gave an emotional interview on Good Morning Britain earlier today. Kate revealed the immense support she’s received since her husband Derek passed on the 3rd January following his battle with Covid, and how she coped with anticipatory grief for four years. Kate also highlighted the strength of her children, and how they spoke to their dad in his final moments. As we react to Kate’s interview, and send our love to the family, Ruth says she admires Kate’s honesty with her children about Derek’s declining health throughout. Plus Kelly praises Kate’s daughter Darcy for acting as a pallbearer at the funeral - something Kelly did for her own mother.

Are you having a laugh mate.?? She never even looked after him. Award ceremonies, camera crews in the bedroom when he was on his last, books, documentaries, night shifts on Smooth radio FFS she just used him to stay relevant. I'm sure within the next few months she'll have someone else in tow (if she hasn't already) and poor Derek will be the last thing on her mind. He's well out of it imo. Your welcome

I took care of my mother who had cancer and dementia, and as much as i loved her and cared for her it drained me. When she died the grief was unbearable, i didnt know what to do with myself i was so used to taking care of my mother, i also returned to work which helped me through the grief process

Brenda I can relate to as we both lost children. It's a terrible grief and you can NEVER replace a deceased child, Kate Garroway may grieve but when sges stronger she may well meet someone new as lots of widows/widowers do

A lovely interview, she's in the public eye anyway and so why shouldn't she speak up on the hardships of caring for a loved one? We all deal with grief in different ways and she's really shone the spotlight on some of the difficulties people face. If people spent more time in looking at their own behaviour than judging others then maybe the world would be a better place.

@@tinarickards8642 both are really hard. You can't measure how difficult one is to the other. Losing your parents can be devastating. We don't all have partners. Some people can be more dedicated to their parents than their partners. The loss of any loved one is devastating. Maybe losing a partner would be harder for you, than losing a parent, but its not the same for everyone

Myself & partner cared for my mother & she lived with us for many years so I do know what that's like. If you have a good partner I would still say it's completely different to losing a life partner. It's the natural way of life, but I understand how hard it can be for someone.

With Derek gone Kate has a huge void, he was her complete focus over the last few years in terms of caring and support and so she probably needs to fill that void with something positive. I don't think anybody should be critical of how she chooses to deal with the aftermath of losing her precious partner, we all cope in different ways

Award ceremonies, camera crews in the bedroom when he was on his last, books, documentaries, award nights and her night-shift radio slot on Smooth radio. That poor bloke had no dignity left when she was finished using him to further her own career and as a poster boy to scare the sheep into getting the clot shots. He's well out of it imo. I have Multiple sclerosis and my husband is my full time carer. The amount he's paid to care for me is an issue he had a well paid job. Its 24/7 can they not see how hard it is. Multiple sclerosis is brutal no breaks. Constant pain. I hardly leave the house. Hospital appointments if I can make them. Bravo to Kate and family. So so hard ❤❤❤

I cared first for my dad with his cancer until he passed and not one month after his funeral which nearly destroyed me mom gets diagnosed and 4 months later she is gone also. I am still hurting and I still think they're here. I always used to go to Marks and Spencer's every Christmas for his favourite trousers and pj's and mom always wanted a lovely cardigan from there and it took me 5 yrs to stop buying them after they were gone. Kate has been extremely brave and resilient but it does change you. The only thing any of us have is our dignity and when you're reduced down to a nurse having to come in and clean dignity has left the room.

When my auntie died. She managed to get her PHD in sociology just before her cancer and earnt the title of Dr which they put on her coffin. Although they misspelt her last name. I know they did because her last name is my last name. (Which secretly made me angry but I didn't say anything because I didn't want to kick up a fuss at rhe funeral service) But anyway, she specifically said that before she died as a request that she wanted everyone to dress brightly. She specifically wanted no funeral attire so no blacks or anything. She wanted the funeral to be a celebration of life rather than a sad affair So i understand Kate's perspective in wanting the funeral to be a celebration or focus on her husband's life rather than on how it ended.

Just says what type of people you are, shes in the public eye for a start and a lot of people throw themselves into there work to cope with there grief and also she has to earn money like the rest of us to keep her home and her children, she has bills like the rest of us ,so what if she goes back to work ! She's the one that's been doing it since start. She literally sold photo rights to ok magazine of the funeral. Who does that. Taking photos by a dying man's bed and having them all over social media and TV. I bet you anything there's a documentary ready to go by Xmas and a book deal.

Kate was in financial difficulties and almost lost their home as she did not have legal rights to access their money while Derek was ill and not in a position to speak. She paid for private nursing care for him 24/7 when he was at home which is not cheap. She had to be the sole income earner for the past 3 years and had to provide for her family. Now that Derek has passed away things should be easier for her financially and maybe she will finally have some time for herself to properly grieve for the husband she has lost. Until you are in that position, none of us truly know the strain she was under so please be kind.

I’m sure most of us would become the bread winner if we could. It’s just so sad how people are ripping into now! Of all times, she’s got such a hard road ahead. Have some compassion.

Why would anyone want to go on a TV program and talk about their Dead Husband unless they were getting paid ALOT of money ?? Sorry if that sounds cynical and very UN-PC but i find all this type of TV very crazy ! There is another reason why she would do this and that is by using the media she is still able to keep her Husband alive in her mind ,while his name is mentioned on TV oh and i forgot Books too ,Books are a very good side line for earning more income through a person who has passed away :(

She's speaking up for other carers who look after family and friends. It takes over your life. There arw millions of people who do it. Yes she was well off and able to pay for the care, she has support and money. Millions don't. She is a voice for those that don't have one or time to voice it. Apologies for the rant. There is familial experience for me although not as bad or debilitating and that was very bad.

And if you had bothered to listen to her interview she repeatedly states how it’s not just her, that lots of others are struggling through grief etc, she champions carers more than most, don’t be so blinkered.
