Their relationship has since improved a lot and Mugrew has apologized and taken full responsibility for the way she behaved. Just in case anybody wanted to know and wasn't aware! People grow and learn and change, and personally I think while obviously her behaviour towards Jeri wasn't okay, her frustration about the situation in general was very understandable.

Yes, but she shouldn't have punished Jeri for something that wasn't her fault. What did she expect from a male dominant franchise? Not to mention she's of Irish decent, and a ginger to boot. They're known for their "aggressive" temperament.

It's as old as Hollywood. The same thing that makes people amazing actors also makes them thin-skinned narcissists who spin up drama and conflict with each other on set over nothing because they want attention. If they weren't the kind of people who did this instinctively without even meaning to, they wouldn't be the amazing actors that carried the show.

It’s a shame Mulgrew was so mean to Jeri for so many years - it’s reflects on her character. Sure, Jeri was younger but Kate was a young actress once too - Kate was only 40 when she joined Voyager - Jeri is 55 in Picard Season 3 and does a great job. Kate has had a lot to say about Sexism/Ageism but sadly I find most of that is woman on woman and she’s a classic example.

The animosity Kate must have felt was somewhat understandable. Serious actor, first female captain, suddenly pulling lines along side what was essentially eye candy. Could Kate have handled it better? Sure, but I also think that real tension made the two characters better. Jeri had something to prove and she ended up creating a phenomenal character in Seven. Patrick Stewart had similar tensions with his cast mates because of his acting backlground.

@@erinocelotl3578 Stewart was going full Shakespearian actor in Season One of TNG and insisting that the cast not fool around or make jokes between takes. At some point, a director for one of the episodes complained that the cast was goofing around too much, and Stewart had a "chat" with the rest of the cast about their behavior. Denise Crosby at one point said "can't we have a little fun", to which Patrick responded "who said it's supposed to be fun?" After he said that, Stewart realized how much of a killjoy he was being and started to lighten up, eventually becoming one of the biggest jokesters amongst the TNG cast. The director who complained would not return for future episodes, and the cast got along just fine with all the future directors.

@@august7535 The real sexism is assuming Seven was primarily there as eye-candy. Her role in the recent ST: Picard show is proof of how much fans like her character (since in her 50s Jeri is still beautiful but no longer serving up sexy tight outfits). I'm a fan who considers Seven to be easily the best Voyager cast member, and I wish her outfits in the show had been less gratuitous - I'm sure many viewers felt the same.

@@iyziejane She's still in pretty snug outfits on Picard. Honestly as a "purile, disgusting, older straight man" I don't see why a woman can't both sexy and a strong actress at the same time. I'm not going to be a hypocrite about sex appeal. That's one ofher gifts. Nothing wrong with her using it as part of her package as a performer. I don't find Kate to be annoying, and I do like the series. It's aged well, in some ways better than TNG. That being said Seven of Nine really boosted the series, and Jeri Ryan performed the role perfectly, giving us a unique character.

I'm an ardent feminist and the same age as Jeri. And I love her. I think she is so talented as well as beautiful. I know Kate's behavior was terrible, but I feel sorry for her. Imagine if you were Patrick Stewart and suddenly Jonathan Frakes got all the storylines while being shirtless all the time to appeal to women in a way Patrick could not. It would hurt. I mostly blame the producers, who sacked Jennifer Lien, (which didn't help as she was loved by the cast) and did nothing to soothe Kate's insecurities. You're the star and they make a big deal of the first female captain and then they bring in an insanely beautiful younger woman who can sing and act and is given better story lines?Ouch !Jeri was also dating Brannon Braga at the time so it must have felt like nepotism. It was a shitty situation and unfair to both women. I can understand Kate venting at home, but taking it out on Jeri was inexcusable. We women should follow the bros and lift each other up. Kate at least has apologized for her shitty treatment of Ryan. They seem to be on good terms now.

Voyager was boring and forgettable without Jeri Ryan because the characters weren't written very well. They were all bland and unforgettable. Seven of Nine was the only unique one with an intriguing story. Capt. Janeway was simply boring. There's nothing interesting about a pants suit captain with the personality of a DMV receptionists. That's not even fun to watch and you couple that in with other predictably bland characters. She should have wised up and realize that the show was taking a hit in the ratings because no one was interested in watching Hilary Clinton in space. We wanted to watch a fun sci show and Seven of Nine did just that. She had a cool personality and a cool story plus she had the sex appeal to keep you glued to the screen. Her character is the ONLY reason people remember Voyager because she made it fun to watch. Janeway just didn't have much of a personality outside of being Captain and female and that went for pretty much every character on that show.

That's not it. All the cast had worked their asses of for years & instead of actually fixing the problems with the writing & producers. They fired the Jennifer lien because she wasn't hot for the fanboys. Wong nearly got fired too, but found out before hand & had his manger do some deals to raise his profile. Also, Jeri Ryan was sleeping with the head writer & producer and that made things 100 times more difficult on the show. All the actors were all unhappy, but the moment Jeri started sleeping with the boss most of the actors went quiet & just got their paychecks. Jeri Ryan knew what her role was and loved it & used it. So this whole Jeri is ridiculous. Why she is playing victim is a mystery, but then that how actresses like her act.
