Katelyn could have made it to Gold in the olympics yes but she was so unhealthy and kept getting injured because of it. She was on a super strict barely eating type of diet and her coach completely messed with her mental health. Thankfully she found a loving and accepting place at UCLA and is much happier

so glad she left elite, she hated elite (and hated herself when she was in elite). In this meet she looks so unhappy/stressed and looks like she's in pain...probably because she had a fractured back and torn shoulder but kept competing because she wanted to be the "best". @@jhaysonryanncorpuz817 She's said in interviews that she hated being in elite. She was constantly called fat and never be good enough, she was performing with a fractured back (I believe she also had a torn shoulder), she began hating herself. So, naturally, not everyone wants to stay in such a negative, hostile environment, it went on for years and years. She quit gymnastics because she hated it so much, until she found a coach who listened to her and had genuine care for her well-being, not just pushing her as hard as possible for every gold. I left for similar reasons. I had a massive shoulder injury requiring surgery, and was unable to use my arm for a year. I was called every name under the sun, mocked, criticized and humiliated from my own coach and team. I quit it all together, I couldn't take it anymore and I don't blame people for leaving and finding a different place (even if it's "easier"). Let people be happy. I don't see why so many people are criticizing her and others for dropping out of elite and moving on to other things.

she had the potential to go all the way...but performing a routine that difficult at the start of the new quad made no sense to me. Here Simone wasn't even close to what her level is now in 2015 and she's in perfect position because they paced her. I feel like they didn't pace Katelyn right at all.
@mocneeuq8 жыл бұрын
So true. I am rewatching Simone in 2013 and it is tremendous how she is now. Her and her coach are very very smart in pacing Simone. Barring any injuries Simone would go all the way to Rio. @GymnasticsParadise6 жыл бұрын
To be fair her D score is 7.2 but they downgraded it cause she was nervous and failed the connections here. Her D score would be over 7.5 imo if she avoided injuries and kept upgrading it, but yes. That routine so early in the quad was insane.

I think that's a typical response to female talent in general. Today in 2021, you can see the same crap being said about Simone's routines. Simone is literally inventing new things and pushing the field forward, but yet isn't allowed to claim social ownership of being a leader -- comments geared towards "oh, that's a 0.1 point deduction" in the face of literal dominance are just insane. Dollars to donuts that if Simone and Katelyn were men, they would not be mismanaged and today the world would be going crazy for 2 incredible gymnasts and would be given credit for their genius.

@gymnasticsgirlie0647 Жыл бұрын
@@athens31415 Nope, this is how gymnastics is. You can go watch men's gymnastics and it's pretty much the same thing. In this sport, every tenth matters. For instance, I remember a 4-way tie on Bars in 2015 World's; it can be that close sometimes. Plus, things like broken connections really do matter because they decrease the difficulty start value (in her case, from 7.2 down). We also have to remember that the commentators are likely not as impressed by this stuff as we are, because not only do they see it all the time, but they themselves are accomplished gymnasts. And to be honest, they are literally paid to be nit-picky as their job is to basically explain gymnastics. They have to explain to the presumably inexperienced viewer mainly the skills the gymnast performs and specific deductions. This is because if the commentators only complimented the gymnast and she went on to get last place, the viewer would likely be very confused. But I also don't think they were that critical in this video in particular; the commentators were ALWAYS impressed with Ohashi. We even saw Nastia compliment her at 1:15, so I don't really know what you're on about.
