I've always thought of this song and video as kind of the "third installment" to my two previous singles Cynical and Somebody Else. The songs are similar thematically, and the videos tie in together. Anxiety, shame, guilt, questioning what you've always thought to be true... they're all part of growing and being human. But just because everyone goes through it, doesn't make it much easier when you're in the middle of it. I have never found a singer whos songs are so incredibly relatable it feels unreal. You don't know, Somebody else, and feel bad are just 3 of the songs that I relate to the most. All my life I have taken the blame for things that were not my fault, I hate seeing other people get hurt, it physically hurts me so if I can take the blame then they won't have to suffer. I'm 16 but it feels like I carry the weight of the world on my shoulders, just trying to do my best. I hide my pain and no one sees it but that's okay. Once again- I feel as if you write the words that describe how I feel so often and sing the unsung song that lies within so many of us who can't find a way to articulate what we are feeling or going through. Your song, "You dont know (what it's like)", definitively helped save my life and start over. It is the song that means the most to me out of every man made song in my life. They say music is the the key to the soul. It wasnt the key to my soul. "You don't know" was the song OF my soul- a couple of years ago. It very well is one of the few things that kept me alive during my darkest days. It was surreal as it felt like it was me singing and the words were what my soul was silently screaming. During this time, no favorite song of the past felt fitting. And despite scouring records and the internet for countless hours, no music and lyrics of past or present could I connect to whatsoever. So vital to my entire being, your song felt like my first breath or drink of water to what felt like my deadened spirit inside. Someone else understood! I had been so lost and alone, with the help of you and your music, I found my grounding and took the first step to unearthing who I truly am and embracing my journey. I learned to no longer spite myself or dark parts of being or life. As my beautiful friend and also a musician, Amanda Capper, who I lost to cancer recently taught me before passing, "Refuse to hate anything that is a part of you. You must love your cancer(s), too." The first time I i heard "You dont know", I crumpled on my bedroom floor and sobbed in a way that I never in my life had before... .... so I played it again. Over and over. Until I could stand again. I believe at least a million views are me revisiting or sharing that song (and your other music, as well) with people. Some days I ask the god and universe in me to take me back spiritually to that moment i first heard "You dont know", when I recognize when reflecting on myself that I need to do more growing or find my grounding and sense of purpose. There is so much beauty in life and in each of us, beneath our suffering and pain. I pray everyone finds their moment awakening and rebirth. During these hard times, I send everyone not only healing and endurance but surround each of you in the love we all equally deserve to be able to give and receive. No life or soul ever needs to feel alone or unloved as long as we shake the self serving ways of the egocentric people and return to connecting as humans. Stay safe and healthy! Thank you so much for this song... I listened to this song this morning and I cried so bad. This is exactly what I've been going through these two or three years. I always question myself if it's okay to say this? What if I offend someone and the person stops talking to me? Will we still be the same? Sometimes I think I care about some people too much. I would get extremely insecure and really afraid of losing them. However I always think for a long time before i talk and usually I end up deleting what I've typed out. It gets more tiring every single day but I just don't know how to stop doing this.
