A high-achieving north London school, previously dubbed Britain’s strictest, is facing a High Court challenge from a Muslim pupil over a decision to impose a “prayer ban”.
The student, who cannot be named, alleges that the policy introduced by the Michaela Community School in Brent is discriminatory and had “fundamentally changed” how she feels “about being a Muslim in this country”, a judge heard.
The pupil described the ban as “like somebody saying they don’t feel like I properly belong here”, a hearing in London on Tuesday was told.
Rebecca Hutson: "They have a fundamental right to be able to pray."

It maybe was a Christian country, but judging the way things are going, unless we act now, we are sleepwalking into becoming an Islamic state, a 1/3 of all new births in Britain are Muslim! If that’s not a warning then I don’t know what is.

If you disagree with the rules of the school, simply change schools,no religion should be able to dictate school policy.

Indeed, freedom of religion is a freedom to choose whichever religion you want. But that should not and does not imply that all traditions that someone might subjectively associate with a religion are automatically permissible in all circumstances. A rule of no prayer under certain circumstances is not discriminating for the very reason everyone is being treated the same.

Then why teach religious studies? Faith in any religion helps you to be more respectuful, teaches you right from wrong, be honest, etc, is it not better to have that in a person than a child with no faith ruining education for a whole class with no care for himself or others, look at kids these days acting like pissy thugs, no repsect for their parents let alone the public. This is not what should be promoted. In some countries in asia they teach young oids etiquette and respect to help them mature faster and be a better person which is what we need, not this BS of let the kid paint, let him be free to be what he wants or let him act like that, that nonsene encourage absoultely nothing but shows a kid he can do what he likes and get away with it. Its a lazy way for teachers to pass time and get paid, give them a pen and paper and let them do what they like but real teaching, should help a kid develop real attributes to be a better person

They do not have a fundamental right to practice their religion in a state school environment. Schools are for education of all children regardless of cultural background and one section should be given special treatment just because they can use emotional blackmail, the argument that they are being made to feel unwelcome because of their political (and in this instance it is political) views of the parents has no place in state schools. Children with special political/religious requirements should go to schools which meet these needs.

This is proving to be a problem in many state schools. The amount of disrespect shown to British school children in the school environment has to be seen to be believed.. They are being force fed a Moslem diet with no menu option for a non religious meal which is appalling. The amount of input into the everyday affairs of school by the Moslem system amounts British schools becoming almost a feeder system for the Moslem organisation. Parents knew the secular nature of this school when they signed up to send their kids there. This is like someone moving into a flat next door to a pub and then complaining that there's alcohol sold next door. If the parent and child don't like this particular school there are plenty of others; they should not have the right to forcibly change school policy to fit around them, to the detriment of the whole school and to the other pupils. If the school loses this vexatious court case it will only embolden similar litigants and set a dangerous precedent for other areas of public life.

Sorry you're religion does not trump my child's education. My daughter attends a school in East London which is now 80% Muslim pupils. In the 80s and 90s it was 12/14% Muslim children. Never Celebrated Eid or Ramadan. Now though all the meat is Halal and during Ramadan the kitchens are closed to be respectful to the Muslim children who are not allowed to eat during this time. My daughter gets given a cold sandwich or wrap with salad or fruit snack. No other religion is given this consideration. It's time we stopped this craziness. A non Muslim would not be given the same consideration in a Islamic country. You want to pray twice a day then do in during break in a private room or attend a Islamic school.

1:38 No m'am they don't have a fundamental right to pray at school, it isn't an Islamic school it's a non-religious school. Not only were there complaints from the residents about the outside prayers, there were safety concerns. As I understand it she did NOT ban prayer only that they can't do it outside. What's so "concerning"? Stop calling everything that doesn't go in their favor islamophobic! If the school allowed children to hold Mass on the playground Muslim parents would complain bitterly about having their children exposed to christianity. Parents of 4 or 5 different faiths have made demands to the school based on religion and it's ALL been refused. Why so much concern about this one group? I don't think ANY religious activities should be allowed at a secular school where children of multiple faiths attend. I wonder if the female anchor would be so concerned if Christian children were denied holding mass on the playground? 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️ What about Easter, Good Friday, Ash Wednesday, Christmas or other religious celebrations? Stop calling everything is islamophobia, why should they get preferential treatment!? Half the time they do it as a show of dominance anyway. Unless you want to live and an Islamic state, smarten up! The writing is on the wall.

Hmm. Perhaps the reporters ought to check the Islamic Scriptures. Prayer is to be performed 5 times a day: dawn-noon/midday-afternoon-evening and night. Surely the student could pray on their lunch as that's the noon prayer and then after school for the afternoon prayer - note the sharia has no set time except for dawn and nightfall. According to the sharia in Reliance of the Traveller book f.2 (Islam's most popular sharia compendium) prayers can be delayed. Then as per how much time it takes: ablutions or ceremonial washing is just that and not a complete bath or shower and ought to take about 5 minutes to perform. Next, the prayers themselves take about 10 minutes to perform. Surely this is not beyond the student doing them on their lunch and after school!!! Oh, and girls are too impure to prayer whilst menstruating! To insist on prayer in the middle of classes etc is simple posturing and an attempt at supremacy!!
@Ayattl
@Ayattl 6 ай бұрын
this comment is the perfect example of compounded ignorance. In the winter time it is possible that prayer times fall into school hours successively meaning that in order to catch the first prayer, you would have to pray before the second arrives - which is usually (aside from the 2nd prayer of the day which you are very likely to pray during lunch break), fall in a time after lunch that would mean that it is possible to miss it. So it's not as black and white as you think. The only thing i agree with you is that praying and ablution doesn't take long - which is precisely the issue, let them pray if it doesn't take long.. Also, the book you referenced is not 'the most popular sharia compendium', how embarrassing. Muslims follow different schools of thought but the same source and subsequently study different Islamic texts that discuss Islamic jurisprudence and matters such as fasting, pilgrimage and prayer which anyways goes back to the primary text being the Qur'an and Sunnah which stipulate clearly when to pray and when exceptions are made to delay - To note, the religion is based on primary texts, not a the book you quoted. As for your poor dig at Muslim women being 'too impure' to pray, i reckon your well educated self purposefully left out the fact that anyone male or female in a state of major impurity or minor impurity, cannot pray until they clean themselves. But the male part just doesn't suit your narrative does it karen? It is not a supremacy attempt, if you feel a bubbling inferiority complex that is something you have to work on in your own time, Muslims will continue to practice their religion young or old. So respectfully, don't tell Muslims about their own religion especially if you are unaware.

@@Ayattl Firstly, prayer times ARE flexible. Dawn is now about 8:00 am in the UK, Muslims are told if their daylight hours are much different than Mecca then they can pray using Mecca times, so in this case the student could easily, and with Allah's blessing, pray at home as early as 6:00 a.m.- first prayer solved. Then a quick pray at noon and again the next prayer once they get home. As per your comment about the Reliance of the Traveller, yes it is the most used sharia compendium as it is considered authoritative and is warranted by the scholars of al Azar, and other highly regarded institutions such as International Institute of Islamic Thought etc. and endorsed/written by the 4 prominent Sunni scholars/schools Maliki, Shafi, Hanbal, Hanifi and based on legal rulings from many early scholars - just read the first 'book' and supported by many prominent scholars both in centuries past and present. I did not make a dig at Muslim women, but a dig at the god who considers His creation 'filth' each month of the womanhood, which He created! I actually feel very sorry they are caught up in this odious ideology with its prophet who said so many awful things about women, and its god that places them as second-class beings. Women are specifically singled out as being 'dirty' for having a natural occurrence in their bodies which was apparently created by their god who now considers the woman to be 'filthy' during this period and that He feels they are beneath others at prayer time. Yes men can be 'filthy' as well but they can generally clean themselves before prayer. I feel no inferiority or superiority over Muslims, just a sense of astonishment that they see value in this odious ideology which seeks to subjugate the lives, hearts and minds of all persons. I feel sorry for Muslims that now that historical evidence from many civilizations surrounding Saudi Arabia (plus trade records, explorer records, maps etc) has proved Mecca never existed before about 700 A.D (in fact the rock inscription, now conveniently destroyed, at Taif commemorated the building and no, not a re-building, of the Ka'aba in Mecca about 698 A.D.) so therefore Mohammad never existed and his Koran was made up by mere men, that Muslims still cling to this fairytale fictional belief system. No civilization ever mentioned Mecca or an Islamic prophet Mohammad or the Koran until far beyond the 8th century!! Both John of Damascus and Pope Leo in mid 700's wrote about the booklets the Saracens/Ishamailites, Hagarins, Arabs made-up for their holy writings, neither man mentioned Mohammad, Muslim or Islam, as again this narrative wasn't developed until the end of the 8th century into the 9th century - the first complete 114 sura Koran was only produced in Kuwait during the 10th century!! In fact the title Mohammad or 'Praised/Blessed One' was a reference to Jesus in historical writings thru-out the 8th century when it slowly morphed to meaning the Islamic prophet. I have a Masters degree in Islamic Studies (and have just gone back to re-do it it to take advantage of the latest findings) and have studied Islam, from its scholars for about 15 years. I know what I am talking about. My library, with about half from Islamic scholars, runs to about $8k worth of books.
