James Kalm started keeping track of the doings and happenings in Williamsburg Brooklyn in the mid 1990s. Over the next twenty years he's seen a scruffy band of DIY galleries and art networks rise to international prominence then, due to uncontrolled development, begin to sink back into obscurity. However, over that same period, a core group of artists and activists have continued to prosper and increase in influence and recognition. Kathy Bradford, is one of those artists, and she graciously acquiesces to a unscripted interview and makes a walking/talking tour of her latest show "Fear of Waves". She discusses with your correspondent her switch to acrylic paint, her friends and coterie in Brooklyn, abstraction vs. figuration and the challenges of being a single mother trying to establish a reputation in the New York art world.
