Sara’s version is the most heartfelt out of them, well mainly because she wrote the song. And when she sings this, listeners resonate to what the song is all about.

So this is super interesting to me. If you count it out, Katharine waits an extra beat between "She is..", which is the cue for the piano, and "messy", and the stretches even more for "but she's kind...". She actually ends up being the one that's really out of time, because the piano isn't expecting her to do that. But since she's the vocal, she's the focal for an audience, so you're really experiencing it through her emotional anchor and its kinda expected that the band will conform to that. It's not to say that she's wrong - I like what she does. But if you listen and count, the piano player is sticking to the part as it's traditionally played. She's just taking it in a different direction, they don't quite link up, she looks to communicate maybe a little bit late but he does the right thing by dropping out. And it ends up working out. I think it's actually really cool.

I agree with Dave. Kat's phrasing was also different from the original. Maybe she was departing from rehearsals, following the original then improvising in the performance OR didn't practice with the accompanying pianist. Either way, I like how she interpreted the song.

Dave is correct. She puts a rest in where there shouldn't be one so it messes up the piano beat. It still sounds fine though.

Wow! Totally disagree. She has one of the best voices of this generation. She owns this song. Definitely better than Sara and Jessie!

@@elizabethentwisle9563 we can agree to disagree. I think she's a meh singer. She has a solid decent voice, but there are so many of her own contemporaries who can blow her out of the water. Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, Carrie Underwood, or Jessie's J. Katherine also can't emote to save her life. She's very flat.

Katharine may not have the range like the other singers you mentioned but I would have to disagree with the emotions with her singing..Yes she's soft in a lot of parts but I actually feel the emotions there..
