Now that Faun has changed so much, I find a lot of their ancien great sound in this song (guitar komp, a wee bit of electronics and nyckelharpa) ! With something of Euzen maybe, for the vocal part & the electronics. Great mix, great job ! Promising for the new album !

Oli played a very old lute or something like that at Lys L.E.A.F. isn't actually only a band, but more a project in which many great and famous musicians from different well-known Folk & Medieval bands were involved. e.g. Maria Franz and Christopher Juul from Euzen and Oli s. Tyr from Faun. :) There are some more I think but I can't remember their names yet.
@EmelieWaldken8 жыл бұрын
+Julia L. First LEAF was a band, now it's more a solo-project of Kati Ran with different musicians, yes. Why not Oliver Sa Tyr. I'm just saying that I miss a lot the sound that Faun had few years ago, and that I'm glad to find something similar in this song because I'm really not happy with Faun anymore.
@feefinefrau88368 жыл бұрын
You are completely right. And although Faun seems to have a new Album in the Works its probably will not measure up to the old style.

A beautiful voice, and a beautiful language (even if as some of you claim her pronunciation is a bit off). Finns are a wonderful and unique culture, quite distinct from the Norse or the Germanic people, so don't insult Kati by rambling on about Aryanism or Asatru or any other of that noise. She's just a fine musician, and should be respected as such!

My attempt at an english translation: " Greetings, Master of the Forest Greetings, Mistress of the Forest Greetings, bought slaves Greetings, hired maidservants (Greetings, Forest)x2 (Rise my guardian spirit, from the trance. From beneath the spruce, my sprite)x2 Release or save me As I may have devised deeds that are wrong 'cus may my wrong Be fault of yours I bring the tapers I place the bribes (Rise my guardian spirit, from the trance. From beneath the spruce, my sprite)x4 (Greetings, Forest)x2 " The language used is old and the pronounciation of the lyrics is a *bit* off, so it may not be perfect.
@MrTLSfan4 жыл бұрын
As far as I understand, the character singing has done something wrong/plans on doing something wrong, and is bribing the spirits and gods of the forest to save him/her from the guilt of the crime.
@repesorsa18873 жыл бұрын
This is Karelian (viena dialect), not old Finnish. Ta/da is "and", not or (even though in Finnish "tai" is or, in Karelian that is not the case). It goes "Release and save me", not "or". And the song is a spell to stop bad things from already happening to the singer, not about the singer planning to do something wrong and saving themselves from the guilt.
@Kanelipullla Жыл бұрын
Fun fact this poem is from 1884, from Suistamo (ladoga karelia) so the og was sung in karelian which is why some grammar may sound interesting to finnish ear. And ofc added with the heavy swedish accent here :D

This song want me to create a time-machine - hail Wotan and Oðin, hail Agni, hail the fire that burns within us all! Don't forget where u from when you pray to Christ next time ... Remember what the Christians did to stay where they are now! Never forget your roots, growth with remembering! Keep the fire burning, Ha!
@sarahgray4306 жыл бұрын
First of all, Wotan and Odin are different names for the same Norse/Germanic sky deity...a deity that the Finns did not worship, because they were not Norse or Germanic! The closest they had to Odin was a being called Ukko, who was more of an observer and recorder of human affairs, rather than a creator being. Secondly, the idea that Christianity was spread by some terrible genocidal war against peaceful "pagan" societies is ridiculous, if you read actual history, because the initial spread of Christianity throughout the Roman Empire was the work of the Roman emperor Trajan (who was an avowed heathen, but would probably kill you if you called him a "pagan" because in Latin the word "pagan" meant an unsophisticated country person) who sacked Jerusalem and took away many Jews and early Christians as slaves, thereby accidentally spreading a religion he was trying to destroy, though it later became the official religion of the Roman Empire, and was later spread outside the Empire by "barbarian" invaders that took the new religion back to their homelands (these include the Norse and Germanic cultures that you admire). Finally, we have the much ballyhooed "Burning Times" which (unless you totally ignore the well-kept legal archives of the Vatican) actually only took place in areas which had been part of the Roman Empire, and since MOST of the people who were persecuted by it were CLEARLY persecuted as Muslims, Jews and heretics (including one of my own ancestors, who had to flee France for his supposedly heretical beliefs) it is unlikely that any of them really followed the remnants of some indigenous pre-Christian belief system! Moreover, as previously stated, this song is in Finnish. Finland does indeed retain a bit of the original shamanic traditions, but the followers of Suomikanto were only sporadically persecuted (and not by the Catholic Church...in fact, Lutheranism was the first form of Christianity to become popular in Finland, and remains the dominant form to this day) and Finland has the lowest number of people persecuted as witches of any country in Europe, because only 55 people were accused of witchcraft in Finland since the introduction of Christianity 500 years ago!

Respect!
